FOREWORD We invite you to come into our school, through the pages of this yearbook, and see the major purposes of high school. High schools throughout the United States have as a basis the same prinicples and purposes, but every school has a different method of interpreting its purposes. The major purpose of any high school should be to equip or prepare the stu- dent for life. This means to teach the student to get along well with others in work and play, to equip him with enough knowledge and skill to secure a job or to do further study, to train him in homemaking and family relations, to develop the body mentally, physically, and spiritually, and to prepare him for taking his place in life as a good citizen. We have attempted to show you in our title pages some of the ways in which some of these purposes are carried out in our school. Co-operation begins the first day a child enters school and continues throughout his school life. Most first graders are timid and afraid to venture too much. Certainly his school offers an excellent opportunity for getting along well with others. As time passes, co-operation is needed and learned in classes. The physical education program is the best place to develop co-operation and fair play. Another essential factor of a happy human being is a well developed body physically. Our playground again offers just this. The well-planned lunches served in our cafeteria are necessary for good health and proper physical devel- opment. Our course of study is so organized to develop a person mentally. The varied subjects in high school are responsible for preparing a student for work. The vocational department offers training in homelife and family relations. Mental development is of great importance in life. Though very little obvious emphasis is placed on religious training in school, it is a vital part of the school program. Our morning devotions, consisting of a scripture reading and a short prayer, are conducted by the class members. One of the highlights of every school year is the Christmas Pageant. The story of the birth of Jesus is re-told with members of the senior class for the cast and with a Live Christmas Tree Choir consisting of approximately one hundred high school voices. Spiritual development is obtained in our school. For preparing a student for taking his place in the world as a citizen, there are many ways. The courses in the history of our nation and its government en- ables the student to know something about the great governmental plant that he will one day be expected to operate. The organizations of our school gives students lessons in leadership and the ability to follow. Officers of organizations and classes give students many opportunities for leadership. Membership in an or- ganization is valuable because it teaches one to follow a leader. A good follower is as important as a good leader. This book portrays work done in one year in our school. Through the years this school stands as the guiding light to many people. THE EDITOR
