C' 'Vx x , . ff' X l l In Appreczkzlzbrz We Seniors wish to express our appreciation to Mr. XYalter Schoe- del, our adviser during our sopho- more and junior years. He became very close to us during those yeara, and the dorm stuilents gave him the affectionate name of Pop Mr. Schoedel added spark to our class parties with his new and novel ideas. Meeting us in the halls, he always gave us a friendly greeting. Having him as a close friend put the finishing touches to our four vears at Concordia. Senzbr Clan 'Hay back in l9-19, almost four years ago, a hundred and thirty-five bewildered and frighten- ed students first entered the beautiful Concordia campus. lt seems like only yesterday, but here it is l953: and along with it comes all the excite- ment and fascination of graduation, leaving your heart filled with warm memories an'l an ever- lasting remembrance of Concordia. Fven though the freshman year was be- wildering, there were many new friends, that first high school crush, and fascinating nooks anil crannies which had to be investigated in every building. Perhaps it sounds childish now, but it was fun then The summer passed quickly, and our sopho- more year began. lt was just wonderful to be together with all our classmates again. All the exciting class parties, hayrides, and the like left many wonderful memories. Then came the junior year, and oh, such fun. lt was our last year in the old building, 28 and we enjoyed it to the utmost. Thoughts of leaving it saddened many of us. but we were cheered by the anticipation of entering a new modern building and by the realization that we would be the first graduates of the new Concordia Lutheran High School. l,ast September began the fourth anfl nn-tl round for our class. It was heartbreaking to know that our life at Concordia would soon be over, and that we would start out anew, with new friends and new things to see and learn all on our very own. Hut far from the sadness was the Senior Banquet, the formals ancl the thrill of many social events Surely the many happy days spent here will always be locked in a little corner of our heart-not only all the social events, but the class- es and teachers, too, and most of all, the Christian education anil understanding we received from everyone. lYith this in our hearts, we can always say, lf God be for us, who can be against us T' A 'NV Valeffzbforzbfls arm' SKIZZIIZUOVIZIIIS Valedictorian ,.,.,, 11:1 ,Islam Scllruwlcr H: N1 Salutatorian Ruth Frwlc- lrxjlhfr A X ll1'111'.vf.'1'1l1l l7ufN11'f1114'11f Q Valedictorian X Vlnilip SChI'1lL'1lCI' 'AY 111 ffx q: h . Wo'-rni-r, IP, .Rauliut Through pictures and writeups, we, the I.1111zi11aria11 staff, have endeavored to recall for you some of the fond memories of the past school- vear. Under the supervision of Mr. Fred Mittel- stadt, we have tried to outline the high points of the school vear here at Concordia Lutheran High. As a stali, we immediately hegari to use our new facilities and equipment. lVith the advice :md supervision of Mr. Mittelstadt, plans were drawn up and assignments were given out for our I.IlllIl'lIl7l'I'llII. lYhen they began, the editors and the stan' were-n't aware of the vast amount of work involved in producing the Lulazinariali. liventuallv everything was solved and organized. The hook was planned, pictures taken, articles written, and subscriptions sold. A drive for pa- tron and sponsor subscriptions was conducted and a lvake sale was held. For a while we were doulitful as to whether the deadline could be inet. XYith determination and a concentrated last minute eifort, our dreams became a reality. lYith deadlines met, we sat back with a sigh of relief--awaiting the day of dis- trihntion. Xllith the rebounding of Tony lingelhrecht, Don Dellinger, 'E ' '- and Moose llorcherding, the accurate set shooting of Kenny liytche- p son and Red Parrish, and the all-around hustle of Yic Hobay and L in Russ Frey, the Cadets had a rather successful season. Again this season Concordia had the honor of having two players named to the All-City Team. Don, Voaell Ron lit'l'SlIIt'lll only a junior, was chosen lmecause of his great relnrunding alnility and because of his accurate one-hand- ed shooting. Tony lingelllrecht and Kenny liytehesou made honorable mention. Concorclia advanced as far as the semi-linals in the sectional tourney. In the initial match they lnlasted the New llaven liulldogs 74-5-l. To annex this victory the Cadets showed that they had re- llonnding almility and could hit from anywhere on the Hour. lingellarecht, llorcherding, and Dellinger swept ltoth the otl'ensire and defensive hoards clean. ln addition to that, all three scored from close in while Parrish, liytcheson, lfry, and liolmay swished the nets from all around the free throw circle. Again that night the Klaroons employed the same type of play as they downed the Monroeville Cubs Ut,-56. The next afternoon they lost to the Central Tigers, who eventually became sectional champs, by 11 04--44 score. The nucleus of Concordia's 11753-54 team will lie formed hy Dellinger, liytcheson, Herb Katnmeyer, Neil Reineke, Tom Brown, Paul Sonne, and Bev litzler. 70 x? . s gg , , Q ,' A -Q gig? Pflieger, XY. Often-Mr. Sehoedel Intramural Depzzrimml The official opening of the lntra-Mural pro- gram for 1952-53 did not take place until the end of November with the opening of the basket- ball season. Already in September, however, the four high school classes met and elected members of their respective classes to the lntra-Mural Council. The seniors chose Gil Schedler, Ron Gerds. Dave Kurth and lid Thress. The juniors elected lYill Otten, Rich. Vflieger, and Carl XYel- ser to represent them. The sophomore picks were Bruce Sherrill. and ,lohn Luderman, while the lone representative from the Freshman class was Rog Nleeks. Basketball began with a few problems in view. XYhen only a month was gone in the season, it became necessary, because of the unexpected low in participation, to cut from the ranks those who held no interest and to divide the teams again, using only regular participants. This new schedule began after the Christmas vacation and continued, with little or no further trouble. Tertia had three teams. Quarta two, Quinta two, and Sexta one. These teams were split into two leagues, the Upper and the Lower League. The three Senior teams and one of the ,lunior teams formed the Upper League, while the four remaining squads constituted the Lower League. .-X-1 copped the Upper League season title, sporting a mighty 15-1 record. ln the double elimination playoffs, A-1 again came through, defeating .-X-3 and A-2 lone junior squad, them into another before being stopped by the 4-.-X, in the finals, forcing 78 game won by A-l, Z1-24. ln the Lower circuit, A-3 easilv won the season title, finishing with an impressive 18-3 record. In the tourney, however, it was different. A-2 bounced back from an over- time setback which stretched out the playoffs an- other game and won the playoffs, 27-25 with two seconds to go in the game. In volleyball, the teams represented a very well-balanced group which provided some very even sessions after school in the asphalt area next to Hauser l-lall. As for softball, the Intra-Mural Council took great pains in picking teams. Difficulties occurred because of many participants who also were on the track team. These problems were solved by splitting up the teams so that each would have a player of equal calibre to fill in for the one on the track team. The result produced Z1 fine season enjoyable to all. The high school also introduced bowling in its lntra-Mural program. However, only one team was represented which participated in the college bowling league. The sport shows great promise in the high school and undoubtedly will be continued next yeai. All in all, the vear of 1952-53 was a very en- joyable one in the lntra-Mural athletics. Con- gratulations to its top-notch faculty adviser, Mr. lX'alter Schoedel, to whom all who participated in lntra-Mural sports this past year owe a heart- felt vote of thanks.
