APTAIN HERBERT WAYNE TAYLOR Captain Herbet W. Taylor the son of Mr. E.A. Tay- lor and Mrs. Helen Hamilton was born 8 June 1937 In 4 Lewisville Texas. He attended Texas A 811 M College for two years prior to entering the Navy in ltlne 1959. He completed flight training and was designated a l Aviator in December 1960 Nava - Captain Taylor s first tour of duty was with VAW- 33 at Quonset Point Rhode Island flying EA1s. While there he made numerous cruises off the east coast aboard USS ESSEX QCV-91 and USS INTREPID KCVS- 115 including one extended North Atlantic NATO de- ployment. Captain Taylor reported to VT-4 at Pensa- cola Florida in August 1964 where he transitioned into jets. He instructed students in air-to-air gunnery and carrier qualification for the next three years and in 1966 was selected as VT-4s lnstructor of the Year. In August of 1967 Captain Taylor reported to VA-122 for A7 transition enroute to VA-27. He became an original Royal Mace Plankowner when the squadron was com- missioned in December of the year. Subsequently he made two combat cruises to Southeast Asia with VA- 27 aboard USS CONSTELLATION KCV-641 where he flew 226 combat missions and became a triple Connie Centurion and a night Centurion Upon reutrning from his second combat deployment in May of 1970 Cap- tain Taylor reported to the Air Force Exchange Duty as a weapons test pilot. During his twenty-six months there he became current in T-38s A-7Ds F-4s and F- 1005 and was the center s chief test pilot for A-7D weapons certification. His next assignment was to USS ENTERPRISE QCVN-651 in August 1972 where he E E f. served two years as Aircraft Handling Officer. Captain Taylor then attended school for one year at the University of West Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree graduating Summa Cum Laude in August 1975. Captain Taylor was Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of VA-86 from April 1976 until August 1978. After completing senior service school at the Naval War College Newport R.l. , 14 , , l ' z , l , , . I I I I . I I I I I I I 1 I Captain Taylor reported aboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY where he served the next two years as Operations Officer. He then reported to the staff, Commander U.S. Naval Air Forces Atlantic in November, 1981 where he served as the Carrier Service Life Extension Program KSLEPJ Officer and as the Operations and Plans Officer. Captain Taylor completed training at the Senior Officers Material Readiness Course in Idaho Falls, Idaho and the PCO course in Newport, R.l. enroute to USS CONCORD. Captain Taylor assumed command of USS CONCORD on 19 February 1985 in Villefranche, France and completed a successful Mediterranean deployment on 14 June 1985. Captain Taylor's decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal Q21 strike awardsl, the Navy Commenda- tion Medal with Combat V Qsilver star for 6th awardl, Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry fwifh g starl Meritorious Unit Citation and various other unit commendations and campaign medals Captain Taylor and his wife the former Sophia Anamateros of Washington D C reside in Virginia Beach VA Al IA id! EXEC U VE 0 FICE LCDR CHARLES S ARRA . TSI LCDR Arrants was commissioned in May of 73 from the University of Louisville' with a de- gree in Political Science. After a short stay in Pensacola, Florida as a student pilot he changed to Surface Warfare Officer and was assigned to USS DETROIT KMSO 4305 as Engineering Offi- cer. He was then assigned to USS L.Y. SPEAR KAS 362 as Engineering Officer and attended Depart- ment Head School in 1980. Upon graduation, he was assigned to USS BARNEY QDDG 6, as Engi- neering Officer and later the USS KALAMA- ZOO KAOR 61 as Operations Officer. LCDR Ar- rants was then assigned a shore billet as Flag Secretary for Commander Training Command U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Presently, he is serving as Executive Officer aboard USS CONCORD CAPS- 52. LCDR Arrants has been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal fl Starj, Navy Achieve- ment Medal, Navy Unit Accomodation, Merito- rious Unit, Battle E, National Defense Ribbon and Sea Service C2 Starsj.
