MASTER CHIEF OF THE COMMAND Senior Enlisted Advisor A . BMCM(SW) RONALD M. CHICK United States Navy Master Chief Chick was born and raised in Sanford, Maine where he attended Sanford High School. He is the son of Mr. Mrs. Marland Chick. In over 22 years of naval service he has served on all types of ships all over the world. While aboard the USS ESSEX (CVS-9) he participated in the Cuban Blockade of 1962. During the Vietnam era, Master Chief Chick worked the decks of the USS KEMPER COUNTY (LST-854). USS BEXAR THE BEAR (APA-233) and the USS WESTCHESTER COUNTY (LST-1167) Prior to reporting aboard as Concord ' s Master Chief of the Command, Master Chief Chick was Senior Chief and later Master Chief of the Command on board the USS MANITOWOC (LST-1180). From there he reported to the Naval Safety Center in Norfolk, Virginia and inspected over 300 ships for safety and deck related systems. Master Chief Chick has earned two Navy Commendation Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, four Good Conduct Medals, four Battle Efficiency Ribbons, Navy Expeditionary Medal for Cuba, Vietnam Service Medal, Gallantry Cross Medal with Palm, Sea Service Ribbon with two stars and has earned the crossed sabors of the Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia, Navy Expeditionary Medal. Master Chief Chick is married to the former Bonnie L. Ricker also of Sanford. They have two daughters. Tammy and Kelly, who was married while Master Chief Chick was on this deployment. The Master Chief, his wife and daughter Tammy now reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia. i

EXECUTIVE OFFICER Lieutenant Commander KENNETH L. NELSON United States Navy LCDR Kenneth L. Nelson was bom and raised in Seattle, Washington. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Engineering. Prior to becoming the Executive Officer of Concord, LCDR Nelson was an instructor at the Naval Academy. First Lieutenant aboard the USS FORT FISHER (LSD-40). Operations Officer on the USS Southerland (DD-743), Flag Lieutenant to DEPCOMSTRIKFORSOUTH. Damage Control Assistant aboard USS KIRK (FF-1087). and Chief Engineer and Executive Officer aboard the USS GUIDE (MSO-447) LCDR Nelson ' s naval achievements include: Naval Expeditionary Medal. Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal with Palm, Vietnam Service with two stars, National Defense Service, and Sea Service Ribbon. LCDR Nelson is married to the former Christine James of Baltimore, Maryland. They reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia with their five children: Casey, Carey, Erik, Rachael, and Karley, who was born during this deployment.
