EXECUTIVE OFFICER lllllaiggl YE I ,,Kv1Illlm1 1 . . , x , Ul Lieutenant Commander Charles T. VANCE was born in Washington, D.C. 24 January 1941. He graduated with a B.A. degree from American University in June 1964. Lieutenant Commander VANCE entered the Navy through Officer's Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island in March 1965. Subsequent to commissioning as Ensign, Lieutenant Commander VANCE attended Combat information Center and Air Control School at Glynco, Georgia. His first sea duty was served as Assistant Combat information Center Officer on the USS CLAUDE V. RICKETTS lDDG 53. Subsequent significant assignments include duty as Combat information Center Officer and Navigator, USS LUCE QDLG 715 Operations Analyst at Naval Intelligence Command, Washington, D.C., Destroyer School, Newport, Rhode Island, and as Operations Officer on both the USS RICH QDD 8201 and USS PORTLAND QLSD 371. Lieutenant Commander VANCE reported aboard COMPASS ISLAND lAG 1531 in June 1978 from exchange duty with the Royal Navy on the staff of the Flag Officer Carriers and Amphibious Ships, Fareham, Hauts, England. He is authorized to wear the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the National Defense Service Medal. Lieutenant Commander VANCE is married to the former Margaret Jane Briggs of Altoona, Pennsylvania. They have three sons, Joseph Alton, Charles Terry Jr. and Michael Edward. ,I jr.
