At their first foreign port of the cruise, Compass Island docked at Southhamp- ton, England. A large seafaring town, Southhampton is close to London, thus enabling the sailors to spend time there. While docked in Southhampton, Compass Island was honored by the visit of the Mayor, Alderman Mrs. L.A. lronside. A Visiting Day was also given, where the people of Southhamp- ton could come on board ship, while the crew demonstrated instruments and answered questions. s l l E 1 1 1 2 4 F f ll .DA

With her destination official, AG-153 was given a special two-fold mission. Along with the technical responsibili- ties of the cruise, we would have time for fun. The first half of their mission was to broaden the knowledge concerning some navigational systems by expos- ing them to the Eastern Atlantic.
