Standing: Ethel Mae Lawell, Dot Pressgrove, Mrs. Ralph McBride, Ray Neese, Bessie Hale, Buddy Brothers, Mr. W. W. Wilson, Shirley Russell. FOREWURD From the first time they walk up the front steps until that final day when they walk out for the last time, pupils of Community School are surrounded by the genial, informal, and helpful relationship of the faculty and student body that is the living expression of true Americanism. To preserve these treasured hours, the COMMUNITEER of 1956 has recorded a cross section of school activities so that when Time has dimmed these recol- lections, a glance through the following pages will give substance to shadows and in memory forgotten moments will live again. 4.45-f., 15" 45Z:fgIg.:'g3-.,,' SIA-fa'Q:.QQ.f11fx,1,4'q.:,-Q.o'Qf,:,g .-'53-f-1-:ig 2-:-73-:7:'2415.652S-2952-5G-!'.-9516-2-Stgizfq I --. - ,- -.-.. :Q . .- 1--. Q , , ,...,,.., ,QA ,...,.,,,.,.,..rg.....,.'.,., , , .'. ...ug , We, the staff of the 1956 Communiteer, proudly dedicate this annual to the par- ents and guardians of the members of the Senior class. Without their sacrifices, interest, encouragement, and inspiration, we acknowledge that these seniors could not have attained their desired goal. We sincerely wish to extend our appreciation to these parents and guardians who have given of their time and effort to the in- terest and advancement of this graduating class. ADMIN: I . n. ' Anon PRHNCCIIPAIUS MESSAGE Unlike Topsy, schools do not just grow. We are beginning a new era in education nationally, a development that will challenge the best thinking of the best educators and statesmen of our time. Under the leadership of the Superintendent and the Board of Education, and through the co-operation of the Quarterly Court and the entire citizenry, we feel that Bedford County has taken a position of leadership in this development. The fall of 1955 saw the last of one-teacher schools in Bedford County, when Longview School joined forces with Community. Community School has enjoyed continuous growth for the past ten years and, we feel, fully deserves the "A" rating granted last year by the State Board oF Education. The faculty, the student body, and the entire school personnel have faith that the new development will bring better schools for all children. Sincerely, MRS. HERSCHEL ADCOCK MRS.
