The com- peting teams were Commerce, Poly, Lowell and Balboa. Although lohn Valdermale of Lowell won the race, Poly wcn the meet uh the highest score. Lowell finished second, Balboa third and Commerce fourth. The men who placed for Commerce were Leo Romero, lohn Perodi, and lohn Raines, who is now in the United States Marines. Kenny Mattea, Loe La Come, Ken Linka, Everett Eyslie, Leo Romero, Aldo Parodi, Dale Perkins, Arnold Loza. Corn- merce had the game from the :start right to the end. The score at the half was ll-4, 'va-g. SOCCER CUpper Rightj The Commerce soccer team finished the l944 season with two wins and eight defeats. The soccer team started the season by winning over Balboa, 4-3. The season ended with another victory for Commerce, this time beat- ing Washington by scoring three field goals to Wash! ington's one. Definitely All-City material, Manuel Morales was the outstanding player of the league, before enter- ing the Navy. The loss of Morales greatly handicapped the team. The coach of the soccer team, Mr. Walter Lester, did a fine job of coaching, always giving his players the finer points of the game and putting fight, courage and determination into the players, COMMERCE 120'S LOSE TO WASH. lLower Leftl The l2O's played a very exciting game at our gym. lt was a close game all of the way and the score at the half was l7 to 24 in favor of the Eagles, and from then on it was a stiff battle and the final score was Washington 36, Commerce 30. i231
