R. C. lWcCully, came to us after a successful adminis- tration at Walker County High School. Mr. lVlcCully received his B. S. and M. To him the staff expresses a wish for many more successful years at B. B. Comer High School. Mrs. Ethel McGowen, always with a smile, is assistant principal. She is one of the busiest members of our administration and faculty. Mrs. McGowen has been at B. B. Q Comer School for 20 years. We hope that she will be here to help us many years to come. . A. has done much to help make our dreams come true. We especially appreciate the work they did when it was so badly needed. Our school was evaluated October Z7 through 31 for the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and without the P. T. A. Organization and their Wonderful co-operation we Wonder if We would have made the grade. ln add addition to their special help, they are always on hand when organizations such as the Red Cross needs contributions and Workers. We have mentioned only a few fine works and we certainly wish to thank them for their co-operation. The officers of the P. T. A. are: Mrs. Jack Craddock ....... Much improvement was made in the elementary school, but perhaps the most noticeable one was the remodeling of Mrs. McGowan's office. Shelves were built on all the walls so that the Elementary School Library could be housed there. Her office is now color- ful and attractive. 4 Y-of who .- , ,giwyll SOME OF OUR DREAMS COME TRUE. After several years of dreaming, planning, and working hard, we at Comer School reached a goal this year. During the early fall there was an air of expectation in our school as we saw the final preparation being made for our evaluation by teachers from all over the state of Alabama. Our class members helped prepare booklets and decorate rooms. We played an important part in the improvement of our school. Finally, the great week came, October 27-31, 1952 when all our visitors were with us. We became friends with them during their short stay and found them to be very fine people. It was a pleasure to have them in our classes and activities. Of course, we waited breathlessly for their approval and were happy when we learned that they did pass us to the next step. This final step was at a meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools which met in Memphis, Tennessee, in Decem ber, 1952. We passed that hurdle, too. We will never forget the feeling of pride and accomplishment that we had when Coach Barton called us to the auditorium and told us that Mr. McCully had just called from Memphis to say that were accepted as a member of the Southern Association. iq, L .,..' f..-, ' ...,.... ,, l 5--eff? UFFICE The office of the principal was remodeled also. We see Mrs. Green in her private inner office where she has a new desk, new cabinet space, new electric typewriter, and electric adding machine. This new office space makes it possible for her and her student assistants to do a more efficient job than ever. . ,3,,,..vf EVHLUHTIUH Hold Fast Your Dreams Hold fast your dreamsl We see so many ugly things-- Within your heart We know, alasl we know Keep one, still, secret spot How quickly fade Where dreams may go, And sheltered so, May thrive and grow-- The color in the wcst, The bloom upon the flower, The bloom upon the breast Where doubt and fear are llOI.
