offs! cgpozfa Due to the older boys being drafted into the armed forces of the United States, or enlisting of their own volition, boys' sports prol-ably didn't have the full strength of man power and experience they have had in the past. There was, however, a full corps of men who turned out for football, forty suits being issued the first practice. Almost twenty were Freshmen. This showed a trend toward football in the younger boys which will make up our future teams. Under Coach B. Glasgow's direction, Colusa had a good team especially on defense, but was weak on offense when the punch was needed to cross the goal line. Although Uolusa did not win a game, they should have won three out of the five they played, but the breaks were against them. After all, that's football. After the hardships of football, more than thirty-five boys came on the floor for basketball. The A team was probably the best team in the league until they lost four of their star players to the service. This setback left the varsity a weaker team although still aggressive. They played mostly defensive ball the rest of the season. The A's won eight games out of twelve which is good for the set back they suffered. The 15's seemed to be an off and on team. One game they wouldn't be able to hold the ball, the next game they would have the opposing team going in circles. Their scoring threat was speed and fast ball handling and for defense, a fast man to man. They won seven games otit of twelve played, but should have won more. The little fellows on the C team won the county championship under Mr. Wilkinsons coaching. They were aggressive and exceptional shots and only lost one game out ol' four. Mr. Newman has a good tennis team this year with quite a few freshmen and experienced men hitting the ball hack and forth across the net. There are possibilities of three interschool meets and the tournament at Chico. Track this year is made up mostly of lettermen with only a few newcomers. Coach has asked ax few of the boys to go up to firland and enter in some of the events of the meet there. They should have a chance of placing in some events as there is good material in this group. Swimming has vet to come, but ii' it is held as in past years, there should he a good meet to watch on the last day of school. All in all, the boys have developed sportsmanship among themselves as they have with other schools. They have learned that winning isn't always the important thing, but that being a good loser is also important. mm. comrom'

To grain membership to the llloek 1' a boy must make a hloek letter in one of the major school sports. He then must he initiated before he is at-eepted. This year, however, due to the war ami the flecrease in membership, lroys who are not initiated were allowed to attend the meetings. Another aetivity was the lllouk C queen contest. This was sueh a marked sueeess last year that it was deeided that it he an annual affair. This year hen-ause of eonflieting dates, there was not a dance, hut the queen was presented at the I-'uture Farmer llarn llanee.
