Suddenly, while the boys are changing partners during a cut-in dance, a girl screams and a moment later the boy with whom she was dancing is found lying on the floor dead--mysteriously murdered. The dancers are stunned, dazed. Who killed him? and why? When the hard-boiled detective fails to solve the mystery with his roughshod methods, third-degreeing everybody present from the Dean of Women to the college crooner, Judy persuades the detective to turn the case over to her. Then Judy uses her own technique and has almost discovered who killed the boy when suddenly another boy is mysteriously murdered. Everyone now has the jitters. Who is the killer and who will be the next victim? SENIOR PLAY CAST Judy ..... . . Chief of Police , . Billy ...... Russ .... Dean of Women . Val.. ......... ...... . .. Lucille and Romney .... John HoYI . my' In the year nineteen hundred forty-five, another class started in the first grade. Mrs. Gulker was their teacher and she was kept pretty busy by forty-five tiny tots. But this wasn't just any first-grade: this was Our class, the class of 1956. Not only did Mrs. Gulker teach us our 4 R's, but she helped us get off to the right kind of a start for the following school years. Out of the class of forty-five, the twenty-three faithful Seniors still remaining are: Jerry Watkins, Sondra Anderson, Gayle Bartz, Naomi Watkins. Martha Jones, Diana Allen, Ter ry Anderson, Ruth Ann Buckingham, Larry and Gary Clymer, Don Darbyshire, Virginia Cartwright, Larry Dtuilap, Denise Fruchey, Rose and Ross Hartman, Shirley Henderson, Jim Kendall, Ruth Kidd, Norma Luginbil1,Judy Morris, Louise Risser, and Pat Rimer. As we entered into the second grade we found Mrs. Sarka waiting to help further educate us in the use of our 4 R's, Pat Schuablin joined us this year. One thing we will never forget about the second grade was our learning of the Ten Commandments and the Twenty-Third Psalm. Then on to the third grade when if it hadn't been for Mrs. Roberts' patience and wisdom, I don't believe that we ever would have mastered the multiplication tables. It was during this year that Owen Jones, entered our class: Jim Bowerman also entered this year. we entered the fourth grade with Mrs. Basinger as our teacher. As we entered the fifth grade, we were joined by Ilo Myers. Our teacher was Mrs. Custer. One minute she was teaching us the states and their capitalsg then the next thing we knew, she would be out playing softball with us. when we entered the sixth grade we found Mrs. Garver waiting to help us prepare for the big event of going upstairs. We were kind of worried about going upstairs because we were afraid that we would miss our recesses. Then finally we were upstairs and after the first few weeks of confusion, we settled down to work. With Miss Gettman as our advisor we had our first big class party. We'll never forget the wiener roast with all the classmates sitting 'round singing. In the eighth grade our advisor was Mr. Stackhouse and while we were pretty busy studying, we still found time to have another big party. The girls got soaked while ducking for apples and it's a wonder the boys weren't sick with all the cider they drank. Allin all, it was great funl Finally after eight years of waiting, we became Freshmen. This was the year we were allowed to choose our own subjects, to elect our officers, and to call ourselves high school students. Mr. Shank was our advisor. At the beginning of our freshman year, we received nineteen new students. From Cairo came: LaVonne Bok, Dave Anderson, Jennie Lou Sandy, Ronnie Siefker, Janet Solomon, and Gerald Wood, from St. Anthony's came Rose Halker, Bernice Hoffman, Jean I-Ioffman,John Hoyt, Eugene Langhals, Dan Maag, Willie Selhorst, Delmar Schroeder, Joe Schumaker, David Stechschulte, and Ivan Verhoff. In Our Sophomore year our biology class went to Columbus. There we toured the State Capitol, Ohio State Campus, and many other interesting places. We also took a trip to Lima where we toured the Tank Depot, Cook Tower, and were shown around the Allen County jail. The most exciting event was the choosing of class rings. Our Advisor was Miss Clayton. This year Linda Roeder, Bob Paulin, Shirley Miller, Delmar Nichols and Jackie Pawl came to our school. In our Junior year we were certainly kept busy. Pat Turner, Dick Shafer, and Doug Graham entered our class this year. Our two big money-making projects were helping with the Florist Banquet and selling Madison Inkwells. There were three big events in that year that we will re- member for years to come. The receiving of our class rings brought cries of joy and many, many praises, coming mostly from the J r's, of course. Our Junior Class Play, Meet Corliss Archer was a big success much to our delight. Then came the never to be-forgotten Junior and Senior Prom. The theme for our Prom was Apple Blossom and Wishing Well Time. Planning for the Prom had a lot of hard work involved in it but we certainly had fun doing it. Our Advisors were Miss Funk and Mr. Patton. 35 fC1ass History - continuedj As Seniors we are always busy selling somethingg Sandwiches and coffee at football games: cake chances, potato chips and candy at basketball gamesg annual adsg and subscriptions to maga- zines. About the last of September the Seniors came to school dressed in their Sunday best. The reason was our Senior pictures were to be taken. Next came Homecoming, with Virginia and Karl reigning as King and Queen. But the year still has many things to bring us and we are eagerly looking forward to them and the memories they will leave with us. As our school years draw to a close may we say that while we regret deeply to leave our high school, we are at the same time ready and anxious to move on to the next and more responsible stage in our lives when we hope to labor for our betterment and for the betterment of mankind. 2,54 5 023 , ml f fflf' 551 4 Defer not 'til tomorrow to be wise, tomorrow's sun may never rise. 36 hofi, Cl' r, Ivan V Gary Clyme byshire, HI' nD Do horst, Willard Sel lap, Llfl ker, Larry D werman, Joe Schuma B0 l'l'1 E: Ii ON ROW ff oede ark Schr Maag, M all Barto, D 1'1'l Barry Blosser, Sa O: TW W RO ndale. ston, Coach Mirl Rose hn Io ld Rona Cl' Larry Clym Bill Smith, Doyle Foltz, E: ROW T Jim King. This year of 1955 was another good year for the Columbus Grove football team. There were about thirty young lads who greeted our football coach, Mirl Rosendale on the first day of practice. After a month or so of practice, these fellows blended into a team that became runners-up to champion in atough North- western Conference league, Their record was 7 wins and two losses, one being at the hands ofa good class A school. If you asked the Bulldog fans, I'm sure they would agree that we had a very successful season. 39 '55 FOOTBALL SCORES WE Delphos 21 Elida 6 Lafayette 39 Spencerville 44 Leipsic 20 Forest 31 Bluffton 14 Pandora-Gilboa 44 Shavmee ' 20 THEY 20 26 O 0 0 14 0 6 47 wa 'Uwwitq ROW ONE, Left to Right: J ack Callahan, Delmar Nichols, Dan Maag, Willie Selhorst, Don Darbyshire. Zingl We're here, on the star of the future, the star of our hopes and dreams. Who knows, for some it might come true. Well, here's hoping anyway. As we travel over this star of the future, we see by the calendar that it is 1976. Right now, we are just entering Columbus Grove. A big Cadillac is powering toward us. As we draw nearer, we see that it is Ruth Buckingham. Tillie, as she is much better known, tells us that she has recently founded Columbus Grove University and is now teaching there. We find that she has a marvelous teaching staff to help her. As we take a tour of the University, with all its modern, up-to-date facilities, we see Larry Clymer hurrying toward us. Upon interviewing him, we' find that by next year, he expects to have a nationally famous basketball teamlll As we are watching this team practice, we notice that there is much noise coming from the room next door. As we move on to investigate, we seeJ enny Lou Sandy, explaining a difficult play to her world-wide known girls' basketball team. She tells us that during her summer vacation, she has a hobby of training riding horses on her ranch in Wyoming. Now we travel to a very modern looking building on the campus. As we walk in, we see a troupe of 100 beautiful girls perfecting a dance routine for Owen J ones's next T.V. show. He is known 'as the greatest comedian of the century. Each week, his show opens with the wonderful, local dance troupe, tmder the direction of Jackie Pawl. She is known as the top modern dancer of the United States. As we travel on over the campus, we come to the Home Economics Building. Here we find Linda Roeder trying to teach poor, helpless college girls how to cook, so they won't poison their future husbands by accident. Look outlll I We are now in the agricultural research department where we have almost been upset by a pig. Whizll Look out againl Gayle Bartz just made a running tackle towards the pig. On his way past, he explains that this is one of his many scientific research experiments. He is trying to find a variety of pig with a tail that won't curl. What for? We'll never know! As we are making our departure from Columbus Grove, we see a beautiful new ranch house on the outskirts of town. We slow down and find that Shirley Miller lives here. Although she is kept busy withher three children, she still finds time for her hobby of raising thoroughbred Collies. She has had vdnners in the annual dog shows at Madison Square Garden. Since it is such a short hop, we are now going to take a look over in Indianapolis, Indiana. There we find Roy Dotson, Jer ry Watkins, and .T im Bowerman slaving over their latest speedway car. It is nearing time for the annual Indianapolis 500' and they want to break the record this year, by winning it for the third straight time. Here, we also find Rose Hartman, who is anxiously awaiting the finish of this year's race. When it is over, Roy will travel with her to their Hollywood home, where she is a model for magazine covers. Now, let's skip over to New Yorkl Here we find Sondra Anderson working as a Power's Model. While we are in New York,we decide to attend the showof the overnite sensation, Ross-The Magnificent. Much to our surprise, we see a very talented young magician who is none other than our own Ross Hartman. While we are in New York, we decide to stop in at Yankee Stadium to see the Detroit Tigers play the Yankees. Here we find Willy Selhorst, pitching one of his typical good games. He has just been named 'most valuable player of the year,' As we travel on through New York, we see Allen's School of Modeling. After becoming a successful model herself, Diana has been training some of the top models in New York. Part of her terrific success is due to her top hair stylist, Rosie Halker. Rosie resides in suburban New York while she and her husband own a chain of Marathon Gasoline Stations all across the entire country. Also residing in New York is Denise Fruchey, who is Vice-President of the Pepsi-Cola Company. Not to gossip, but rumors have it that a little inside influence got her this job. Since we have one more night left in New York City, we decide to drop in at the Club 2l, As we enter, a small, petite lass in the spotlight attracts our attention. As we draw nearer, we find her to be the fabulous Ruthie Kurber. She tells us that besides her many appearances at Club 2l, she has also appeared at places such as the Hollywood Bowl, The Stork Club, and Perry Como's T.V. show. As the waiter comes to take our order, we find him to be Bob Paullin. He tells us that ordinarily he is the main chef at the Club 21 but is only filling in tonight as an extra waiter. He is well known for his French food creations. Now let's take atrip down to Washington. Here, we find many of our old classmates. First of all, welcoming us with the key to the city, we have the President of the United States, Ivan Verhoff. He is receiving much assistance from his right-hand man, John Hoyt. D0 YOU SUPPOSC BUY of his old high school theories are working outin Washington? As we are meeting guests at a large party given in our honor by President Verhoff, we run across none other than Donn Darbysbire. He tells us that he is on a quick business trip from West Point where he is now head football coach. Suddenly we see another 'familiar face coming towards us. But wait, she is surrounded by a crowd of young boys, ranging from two to sixteen. It is Virginia Cartwright, who is married to an Army Lieutenant and is very busy, raising a family of little recruits. Is there a doctor in the house? There most certainly is, and here he comes right now. lt is none other than Pat Turner, who is now head surgeon at Walter Reed Hospital, As we board a huge Constallation, we look into the face of our smiling airline hostess, Martha Jones. She tells us of her exciting career, flying to all parts of the world. She also tells us to be sure to go up to the front of the plane, where we shall find Gary Clymer as our pilot. He tells of finding his job rather tame, after being a test pilot for the new rocket ships to the moon! As we gasp in wonderment, at this statement, he tells us not to worry because these ships are very safe. It would be impossible for them not to be safe, when they have been designed and per- fected by the world's most brilliant scientist, David Stechschulte. We have had a wonderful trip across the Atlantic, and are now preparing to land in Paris, France. Waiting to greet us upon arrival is our new Ambassador to France, Delmar Schroeder. He tells us that he is kept very busy with internatlionalaffairs, but not too busy to keepup on the night life in 'Gay Paree.' While we are shopping in Paris we rim across Shirley Henderson, who tells us that she is now private secretary to the top dress designer in Paris. Now we travel onto Rome, ltaly. Here we run into Ronnie Siefker, who tells us that he always wanted to know what people meant when they said, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, so he carrie to Rome to End out. It looks as if the Roman way of life suits him, because he seems to be very happy. As we travel on to Africa, we find Dick Shafer in the deep, dark jungle. He tells us that he is making a fortune selling the ivory of the elephants which he hunts. Ah, here we are sunbathing in Hawaii. This figure com.ing down the beach seems to look very familiar. Why, no wonder it does, it's Ruth Kidd. She is keeping an eye on her twin girls while they are swimming. Ruth just recently won the Women's National Diving title. Now let's be on our way to Los Angeles, We have an invitation from Louise Risser, who is now managing the Hilton Hotels, to spend some of our time at the famous Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Here, we get to talk to another of our class mates, Judy Morris, who is private secretary to Nicky Hilton. We also decide to visit the set of a motion picture. We are very thrilled when we get to talk to the star of the picture, KarlKiene. He tells us that he has been playing leading roles in many of the new gangster pictures. Bernice Hoffman is head designer and seamstress at the studio. Betty Lou Osborn is found here, too. She is teaching many of the leading actors and actresses to speak in authentic Southern dialect, Wellll Today is payday and look who got to carry all tl1e money to the big name stars. lt's our own N aorni Watkins, President of Ca1ifornia's largest bank. While we are still in California, we will visit UCLA. Here we find Hank Nichols busily preparing his team for the coming Rose Bowl Game. We also find Doug Graham here teaching animal husband ry. Also in the Golden Gate state orginates afamous kitchen program. It is moderated by Norma Luginbill. The show is broadcast from her palatial showplace of the nation, which was built by the most famous brick mason in the world, Terry Anderson. By the way, the announcer and official taster of the program is RonnieJohnson, who has long been known for his love of good food. The sponsor of the program has hired a lovely blonde model to advertise its shampoo, Her name is LaVonne Bok. The next day, we have the honor of cruising to Las Vegas in a new sports car. This car was designed by Gene Langhals, with Joe Schumaker having perfected the engine to go 500 miles on a gallon of gas. Our chauffeur is Jim Kendall. Vice-President of the firm in charge of entertaining celebrities. On the road, we meetacoast-to-coast truck driver. His name is David Anderson who also hauls farm products from the Texas ranch of his good friend, Larry Dunlap to the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. Gerald Wood got lucky in a card game and now owns the famous night spot. The specialty dish here is chicken a la Maag, The chickens are raised by Dann Maag, who is also the master of ceremonies during the floor show. The groceries are supplied by the firm headed by Jean Hoffman, who owns fifty other food stores throughout the country. The cooking is supervised by Janet Solomon, herself an internationally known cook. Ilo Myers operates a private nursery for the children of all millionaires in the city. Pat Schaublin heads a health resort that is attended by people from all over the world. Fabulous?? Well, maybe not. Only time will tell if our hopes, dreams, desires will come ture.
