Ldpwf. 7, fm WM 1 i I We, the Senior Class of 1965, take considerablepride and great pleas- ure in dedicating our annual to Mr. E. Gordon Warner. Under his supervision, we held a mock election in the fall which en- abled us to become better acquainted with the responsibilities of voting, All his life Mr. Warner has taken a deep, active interest in many phases of government and socialscience and he is able to impart his knowl- edge to his students. His sense of humor, his deep understanding of human nature, and his rich, varied experiences outside of the academic field all go toward mak- ing his class worthwhile. We leave you, Mr. Warner, our sincere thanks and best wishes. FACULTY F' 1221221QYfraf1O12 W. G. GLOSS D. W. N 05 GQSJ jfsfory 'ga These are the eventful experiences that the Class of 1965 will always treasure. After the most gruelling' and torturous initiation Anyone at C. H. S. has ever gone through, we elected Gary Troll as our first, president. Under his able leadership our class organized the FIRST freshman variety show in C.H. S. history. As upperclassmen our most fun-filled sophomore activity was the biology trip to Pittsburgh. Eric Keck led us through that scandalous year. We remember it well! Under the leadership of Rich Snyder we had many money making projects in our junior year, such as junior refreshment stand, car washes, and selling candy. The junior play, The Happiest Millionaire, was a great success. The arrival of our round rings in December set a new trend in style. Our tireless hours spent in preparing for the junior-senior prom Sayonara paid off when it received an honor for the second best prom in the district. We returned from our usual summer vacation to find ourselves as high and mighty seniors. We elected John Lake our president. Remembering our trying initiation we had hopes of seeking revenge but . . . Our class began organizing the annual and publishing the BEACON among our various activities such as the play, prom, pictures, cards, class day, and New York Trip. We climaxed our year with Baccalaureate and finally Commencement. GQLS 1' f JIM ALTOMARE wills all of the Uncalled Four's music back to them. Mike worked hard at all times and for his size made himself known. Mike was a winner of the Mayhem Axmurder Award and best defensive lineman. AIVARS DUKATS - Duke, our leading scorer, showed his speed and agility in breaking away for many touchdowns. The Duke re- ceived awards for best offensive and defensive back, best two-way performer, and the Mayhem Axmurder Award. ERIC KECK - Eric, our captaing played the backfield this year and was a linebacker on defense. Eric received awards for best offen- sive, defensive, and best two-way player. GARY TROLL - Gary started the season late due to a broken thumb, but he came on fast showing good speed and agility. JOHN SHASTEEN - John, a senior, was a defensive specialist. He played many positions on defense, filling them quite well. John received the Mayhem Axmurder Award four times during the sea- son making him the toughest man on defense. RICH SNYDER - Rich served as our guard on both offense and defense. Rich always played his position with determination and zeal. JOHN LAKE - John managed his position as tackle with great deter- mination. As a defensive end stopped many an off tackle play. John received the award for best offensive lineman. PAUL LONG - Paul as our offensive center turned in an excellent job of blocking and twill won the best offensive lineman award. KIRBY ZELLERS - Kirby was one of our best defensive backs and also an excellent receiver. Kirby was one of the few ends who could run well after he caught the ball. His fine defensive play and pass receiving will be missed greatly. ALAN WISE - Butch served as quarterback on offense, showing good ball handling and poise. As a defensive backed re- ceived the best offensive back award serveral times. BOB WEIKART - Bob, a senior, came through as our outside tackle on offense and played end on defense. Bob re- ceived awards for best offensive line- man. LARRY BROWN - Larry was a member of our fine defensive wall and saw a lot of action at offensive tackle. Larry 's great size should help make next year's line the biggest and best around. This page sponsored by R. G. Spiker and Sons 28 North Elm St. , Columbiana Your Lennox Heating 85 Cooling Dealer Qzoofgczfbbeffermezz RICK ISTNICK - as a Junior this year Rick did a fine job at quarter- back. His fine passing and good ball-handling kept the offense going. He should guide next year 's team to a fine year. DAVID ROWLAND - Dave, only a junior, showed his ability by win- ning a first string position as offensive guard. As a defensive tackle he proved he was hard to move. Dave received awards for best offensive lineman and best two-way performer. HERB BORTNER - Herb just a junior, showed the stuff it takes in filling the position as offensive guard. On defense he proved himself just as capable. Herb won several awards both on offense and defense. DICK KELLER - Dick was another junior who came on strong for us this year. Dick took over both an offensive and defensive position and became our most efficient player. His all-around ability will be a great help next year. JACK HAWKINS - Jack was a terror at defensive end and seemed right at home in the backfield where his strength enabled him to make many fine runs. Jack was also our punter and his fine punts and quick kicks often put the enemy in a bad position. Only a junior he should be a standout next year. DAN OLIVER - Dan was injured early in the season and saw only limited action, but he can be looked for to hold a starting position on next year 's team. DOUG KNISLEY - Doug was a capable replacement at end this year but his mainstay was defense. He should be a tough linebacker for next year. JOHN NEWELL - John was only a sophomore this year but held down the long side end position. His fine blocking and pass receiving will be a great help in the next two years. DALE YOUNG - Dale is another of our many fine juniors and played alot for us at end this year. Dale should be a big help to next year's team. RICK DETWILER - Rick saw a lot of action this year on offense and defense. He still has two years to play and should be a help to our future teams. DAVE WEBER - Dave was another sopho- more and played defensive tackle. Dave should be a big factor in our de- fensive line in the next few years. fEa.ylQf5a1 UGFSIQ wr: 2 2 1 -fa E E? Dick's quick weaves enabled him to score many points and to stop many of the opponents' scoring threats. JACK HAWKINS: Hawk, a junior, plays the pivot. When the play starts getting rough under the boards, Jack's al- ways there getting the rebound or putting in the all-important two points. JIM MURPHY: Although only a junior, Murph was our best scorer and that with an uncanny accuracy. Jim's point- getting ability should be a great help next year.
