W. In 1959 the doors ofC. H. S. opened on a completely bewildered and awe-stricken group of young people who were then regarded as the lowest form of life in Columbiana High. Because we were made of stern stuff we survived Freshman initiation with few injuries and then elected Tim Smith as our president. Under his leadership we executed many fund raising projects, our main one being our fantastic, fantabulous New Year's Eve dance, Thus, began the history of the class of '63, In the fall of '60 we returned again to the halls of C. H. S. , maybe a little wiser and certain ly a little more sure of ourselves. Under the leadership of our able president Jim Longsworth we started looking ahead and acquired a sizable bank account from the proceeds of our many pro- jects. The fall of '61 found us breathlessly awaiting the most funfilled year of our high school ca- reer. We had now advanced to the rank ofluniorsl We elected Tim Smith as our president and under his leadership we set forth upon a very busy year. Our first big venture was managing the Junior Stand at football and basketball games. Around Christmas time came a most anxiously awaited event--the arrival of our class rings. Next came Harvey, our terrific class playg close on its heels the closing event of our junior year--the Junior-Senior Prom entitled Alice's . Wonderland. This was the culmination of our entire year's efforts and was one of the most beautiful proms Columbiana will ever see. At last '62 found us high and mighty Seniors, First on our agenda was the revenging of our own humiliating Freshman initiation. Then with Mr. Barton and Mr. Ossoff as our advisors and Tom Pfund as our president we traversed our final year, the main accomplishment being our an- nual. The entire class was kept busy gathering material to help make it a success. The Beacon also kept many Seniors occupied. Our class play, George Washington Slept Here, presented early in November under the direction of Mrs. Alfred Swanson was a huge success. Finally the closing event of our high school career arrived--graduation. Graduation had a double meaning. Although it signified the end of one era in our lives, it also heralded the beginning of a new era, one which was bound to be filled with greater achievements, sadness and we hope, of coursc, greater happiness for all. .Adwar-
