His scrappy play and big smile will be greatly missed next year. Ray Souder-Guard-Senior This was Hay's third year of var- sity ball and it was outstanding. Wlietlier it was bringing down an opponents ball carrier or opening large holes in the line, Hay was the one for the job. He'll be, hard to replace next year. Don McBride-Quarterback Senior Don, playing his fourth year of varsity football was a rock on both offense and defense. His positions as a iolting linebacker and a hawkeye passer will be hard to replace next year. Fred Forney-Halfback-Senior Fred, playing his last year of ball, made it one well worth remember- ing. He played defense and when- ever the going got tough it was always Fred who was called upon to carry the mail. Larry Bailey-End-Senior Larry was this year's number one pass receiver and defensive end. His sportsmanship and team play will be missed. Earl Hicks-Fullback-Senior Earl was a hard-driving fullback and always picked up those bad- ly needed yards. From his line- backer position he stopped many a play from materializing. jzwtballg l Managers: Dick Detwiler, Harlal Leonard, Phil Kramer, Eddie Kysl Dick Webber. Q 6 t' Q :4 K I . K. Head Coach PYLE Fred Koch-Tackle-Senior No matter how tough the sledding was, Fred always had a witty re- mark to keep spirits high. His de- pendable, consistent play will be missed next year. Larry McVay-End-Senior Larry had the needed ability and height to catch passes and knock down interference. We were sorry to lose him before the end of the season because of an accident. Bob Iustice-Tackle-Senior This was Bob's first year of varsity competition. As well as seeing a lot of action at tackle, Bob was al- ways willing and capable to play anywhere he was needed. Fld Managers: Matt Powers, Wilbur ck .. -gt ,. . 'L eggs yt 4 v .pf- HJ-1 wi . , . V W W W t Assistant Coach Dick Berryman Dick Barnes-End-Sophomore Dick got his chance to play at end, and proved himself capable. Using his height advantage, he snagged passes for needed yard- age. His experience should make him a mainstay next year. Burdell Heck-Tackle-Iunior Birdie used his weight to an advantage by stopping plays up the middle. His desire plus the experience he has gained Will spell trouble for next year's oppo- nents. Arnold Elser-Center-Sophomore Arnie, having the desire and will to play, won a starting berth at center. There was seldom a bad pass from center and his defensive play Was very important. He'll be back strong next year. Iohn Case-Quarterback-Iunior lohn was frequently called upon to quarterback the team, and did very well. He should be a great asset to next year's team. Homer Gilchrist-End-Iunior Homer's play was cut short by injuries in midseason, but his limited action was impressionable. His towering height would be valu- able to next year's team. We hope he will be with us. Chuck Bevington-Tackle-Iunior Chuck, alternating at tackle and center did a bang-up job at both slots. Next year he should be one of the best, regardless of where he plays. Don Oberholtzer-Fullback Sophomore Don was a bruising tackler and played mostly as linebacker. Al- though constantly hampered by injuries, he refused to be sidelined. Watch him next year! Iohn Patchen-End-Iunior lohn played mostly at defensive end and always seemed to charge through and get the ball carrier in the opponents backfield. lohn will be back at end next year. Ray Burkhart-Haliback-Iunior Although this was Ray's first year on the gridiron, he played like a veteran. His tricky running gained many needed yards around end. He'll return next year as a con- sistent ground-gainer. Hubert Keylor-Guard-Iunior Hubie was a very hard-charging guard and his defensive play was outstanding. He will be back next year striving for perfection. ,-1 .. px I 2: , l KW 1953 L1 me ggyolaer Jimi-Jlqldzhq, Ublfmllflj Jwtball, jmm 601114, .Samui Flaw E'-i21'b31?S .5t ..t. ' The Clippers opened their grid season this year with Po1and. The Clippers fought a tough battle all the way, but were defeated by the bigger Po- land eleven 16-O. For our second game we traveled to McDonald. McDonald surprised the Clippers with a 26-6 victory and our second loss of the season. The Clippers registered their first victory against North Lima, Taking an early lead the Clippers went on to ct 36-6 victory. Playing host to Spring- field, the Clippers scored in every period to down the Tigers 24-U. Our next game was with Leetonia and it was a hard fought battle all the way through. The Clip- pers scored the first two touchdowns, but the Bears weren't to be denied. They made a strong come- back and handed the Clippers their third defeat 26-12. For our next game the Clippers journeyed to Canfield for another tough game. At the half the Clippers held a 20-O advantage. Canfield staged a fighting come-back in the second half, but it was not good enough to overcome the determined Clippers and we went on to win 20-13. Next the Clippers went on to defeat a stubborn Lowellville team 21-U. The victory clinched second place in the league standings for the Clippers. We traveled to Lisbon for our next game. The Bluedevils took an early lead and went on to win 26-12. For our last game of the season the Clippers played host to Palestine only to be downed by a mighty Bulldog eleven. gi JL. 5.71411--1952 The Squad was made up of Co-Captains MILT POWERS, dashes and PAUL ALLEY, Distance Runs: FRED PORNEY, L. This is an inaugural year! Our own land begins a new presidential era. England assumes a new ruler. And YOU open the page to a new and exciting chapter in your own lite's story! But stop tor a moment before you begin! Check your equipment and understand your best dreams. Then take to the path that leads to success with confidence. There will be disappointments, of course . . fwhen your goal seems tar oft and the course rugged. But remember that many have vested their hopes in you . . . just as America looks to Ike, as England is revived by the wholesomeness of Elizabeth. And so it is YOUR year of commencement . . . YOUR moment of challenge . . . YOUR year of inauguration!
