He has been both contri- butor and mentor to the field of thoracic surgery, from the time he arrived at Presbyterian Hospital as a young interne, when thoracotomy was done with reticence and under local anaesthesia, to the present, when open-heart surgery is an everyday occurrence. To us, the class of 1968. he has been the distingu- ished, wise and learned gentleman, who always spoke for the direct approach to problems, skillfully guid- ing us through logical steps to the correct solution. It is a great honor for us to dedicate the Yearbook of the Class of 1968 to him. 5
