The hrst main problem was finding a printer for the book. After many days of searching about New York City, we signed with the Comet Press. De- Kane Studios were again retained as photographers. Early in October, members of the stall at- tended speeial classes at Columbia and Xew York Universities, dealing with high-school journalism. We heard such famous speakers as Dale Carnegie and editors of important New York publications. Some of the ideas suggested are now before you. Meanwhile the business board was hard at work. Over one thousand letters were sent out bv both the subscription and advertising departmerts. One Saturday a group of boys worked all day to get most of these letters out. joseph Cohen Barrie Sommertield Busir Arnold llart joseph Eisner Ii:-rtrani ,Iosephson Melvin Lipman William Hartman Martin liudikoff Erlito Xlorton Lomask llivhard Selby Javk Bobker Him-hard Kaplan Stanley Sadowsky David Yellen Ar! For the hrst time. the trustees and PTA have been given space in the book. while faculty pictures were better planned. the lower and high school instructors each having a separate pic- ture. Color was used more elliciently. and cartoons were inserted throughout the hook. The senior class will has appeared for the first time. while senior pages have been rearranged. More use of the two-page spread was inaugurated. and the pic- tures were more artistically arranged. when you turn to the hack of the book. you will notice a great change in the advertising department through wllicli cartoons are interspersed. An index follows the advertisements. Here is our finished product. We hope that you will enjoy itl Hi to 9 C7116 1 lx l1llXX 11 1111111 III!! At the beginning of the year. from a large turnout of interested students, officers were elected: Myles Sachs was chosen presidentg Leonard Gross- man, corresponding secretaryg Jerry Cohen. record- ing secretary. To insure future efficiency, the newly-elected president appointed a committee to formulate a constitution. With a Hrm basis thus secured, several intra- mural and interscholastic debates were arranged. The first of these was an intramural debate concern- inf' whether the automobile union was justified in dcmandlnc a 30 per cent wave lncrease for 1' members from General Wlotors Debatinv for th union were Joseph Cohen Arnold Hart and Fd Planer For the manflffement w re Stexe Her7feld behate Council William Hartman, and Lenny Grossman. Joseph lfisner was moderator. The debators for the man- agement narrowly defeated their opponents. Next was a pair of interscholastic meets against De LaSalle on the subject of compulsory military training. Two Columbia Grammar School teams were to debate: one in a home assembly, and the other at De LaSalle. ln the home debate, the C. G. S. team, composed of Ralph Kestenbaum, Noel Schweig, and rebuttalist Phil Leavitt, argued for compulsory military training. ln the meet at De LaSalle, a while later, Morton Lomask, Joe lfisner, and rebuttalist ,lerry Cohen took the neva- tne new of the subject ln both of these debates llu Columbla Grammar teams were defeated lhesf defeats were due to then opponents excellence lfilher than their ll'lEI'IllltX X nick RUSS l1UffLUl71lISl Tito Sofas Alrnze Hurt Noel Srhuu, m'l Hartman Stcze Her jeffd joe Eisner Ralph Ixeslenbaum ltldu llnner D111 Rubenstezn FIR T ROW Fred Ixass Burlzlx fosephson Lenfne Grossnmn 'llr Allurt Full!
