Coach Roy Kilby Basketball The Columbia City Cagers, determined to make a record in the 1949-50 season that would equal that of the football squad, did just that! With a show of power which racked up 1019 points against their opponents' 850, the Eagles swooped down on the NEIC trophy and flew off with it. Capturing the sectional title by defeating Milford, 60-53, Pierceton, 52-37, Warsaw 61-52, and Syracuse, 59-52, the team went on to meet South Bend Central, rated number one team of the state, in the regionals. They held South Bend to a close game for three quarters, and then the Cen- tralites pulled ahead to defeat the Eagles in the fourth quarter. Jack Stalf, senior, paced the Eagles for the season with 289 points. The individual scoring of the other squad members was as follows: Bob Parrett, 196, Don Lloyd, 178, Jack Lickey, 100, Jim Adams, 76, Tom Coy, 52, Warren Clapp, 50, Dick Phend, 42, Maurice Tucker, 41, Jim Luckey, 9, and Dean Magley, 9. Many of the boys come from active participation in the Junior Athletic Association to the Frosh team. This year the squad won four out oi' twenty games played. More important than scores to this group. however. is the valuable experience gained in actual participation in the game itself. Basic rules are stressed by Coach Toni and groundwork is laid for future work on the second and varsity teams. sae ' D 111.11 lx 1 11 t111 1 1111111 1 1111 F111 A1111 Q. n 9111111111 1 11111 11111111 111 1111 1 good 11111 1 111111111 10111111 I1 11 11111111 11111 11111 11111 11 111111 I1 1 X111 lh St 111 0 1 770 1 11d f1lN11 1 H IC'111N Half 111111 11111 1 AC1l111N P 1 11111 S11111 ll 1 I1 1 1 1 111111 ll 111 I'11111 L111 440 11111 111111 880 X11C1 111111 M111 1111111 T1111111 B 11111 Jump H 11f 111111 1 b1 J 1 V1u1t H1111 Kellum, 1V111L 1111 B1n11111 11111 M111 M111 R1111 D111 121111111111 P 11 V1u1t B111 11 J1111111 11 Hu1d11s D1111 P1111111 P011 N1u1t H1 h Jump 13111311 J1111111 11 AC11I11N 1 1 111 IL LX 1 1 11111 111111 1950 1118111 tl If 11 1 ll 11 11 I 1 71 X111 11 711 '11111 11 1 1 'X 1 11 11111 111011 F11 A111011 D1111 1111111 F 11111 1XL1Cl V111111111 1111 M11111.,11 R IX B1 lddllfk I1 11111 JIPI BIlff.,S B111 '1'1u111 J111 P11111 1V1'lL111QC T K9110L,2 3111 11111 Jack L111111 JIIT1 Ad1111s D11l1 R1111111 111 131111 I11XL 1111 11111 1 1 1 111 I 111 A171111 111111 1 111111 11111 1X '11 11 1 131111111111 1111111 1111 111 G11111111 R11 IX C 111111111111 'NI X1 111 C111111111111 1V1ll 1111 1 511111111 11 '111 11 IIN 1 11111 11111 11111 1'1 l1L 111111 T11111 11 11 T111311 H1-11 T111111 1111111111 11111 X UHX 111 0111 1 1111111 J1111 B11111111 D1111 W11111 Bob 1 B111 C111 T11111 C111 D111 I 111 V vo. ,Al 44 'V N LQ-fs talk about aCtix'i1ies. ilntcmupted Jerry Jolmsifm, 'I'hz11's sumelhiug in which W0 ull pa1'ticipu1v. Its many duties include selling pop and candy at the games fthe money is used for worthwhile convocationsb, selling season tickets for bas- 46 ! A U in ketball games, and planning pep sessions. Choir An exchange concert with the Warsaw choir added a new touch to the activities of the choir this year. Forty-nine students worked hard on the project for the year- -new robes for the choir. The annual Christmas concert with the band was held featuring the additional carols. On May 10th a spring concert was held in Marshall Memorial Hall. The program was varied, including classical selections, 52 Negro spirituals, and modern selections. Chief emphasis ol' this concert was per- haps on several Rogers and Hammerstein Selections chosen from UState Fair, Ca- rousel t'South Pacific, and t'Oklahoma. Choral activities were concluded for the year as Mrs. Merrill Munns directed the choir through 'tThe Lord's Prayer. Grant Me True Courage, Lord, and The Lord Bless You and Keep You at Baccalaureate ceremonies. Dramatic Club Miss Eloise Blackwood ably led the Dra- matic Art group into new fields of study and achievement this year. In November the group presented Home Sweet Homicide, a three-act comedy-mys- tery. The polished production was enthusi- astically received by a near-capacity audi- ence. A Christmas skit, The Night Beit,-re Christmas and an April Fool's convocation. represented the other performances by the group. During meetings of the club, the students wrote and delivered original skits and mono- logues. They studied make-up extensively and applied their knowledge in helping with make-up for the Jaycee Minstrel and the Junior Dramatic Art club play. A trip to Fort Wayne to see Joan of Lor- raine was the high-point of this years ac- tivities, providing an interesting look at the legitimate theater. lst row Lee Whitson Carolyn Egolf Betty Shroyer Arleen FHYIIS Miss Blackwood 2nd IOXN Doris Fgolf Sala Coy Maigaret Je knson Mae Evans 31d zow Konnie Cwin Nan y McClain Gay Giable Chailene Beard Dime Gage B ibaia Gustafson 4th iow Jim Sewell B111 Woodward Max Muiphy Rogei Sewell Dean Lawrence Art Folty Jim May Junloi De Poy Bob Kellogg 53 l l l i l x i . . , v , . , ,. . 4 . , . , , . .4 , , A , . . . , . . . . 1' , c , , , . , Lx ' V 1 3 Y U 'S 7 7 ' X1 lst lou left to llght VVIAUIILS Tuckel Dlck Gates Jun1o1 De Poy Roger C iwthxop Jun Bllggs nd 10W Lu Ann LOIbLl Anne FlShL1 Aileen FIIIIS Shuon Loxxe Batty Shxoxu Shulcx Fu guson Suah Puth Brown 31d low Mlss Caxvel Betty Glllesple Rlchald Waugh Don Lloyd .Inn Adams Bob Kellogg Bnbaxa Wolfe June Hlcks Mlss Tho1nbu1gh HILIOIIHI Forenslc Leaguc Nat1onal Forenslc League the much coveted speech honorary has a membershlp .omposed of outstandmf hlgh school spe L ers In order to become a member one mus enter 1nte1scholast1c contests and make er ICQ speeches before adult orgamza or Awards for such endeaxors are g1ven a Degrees A degree of m r1t 1S requ led for adnnsslon to the NFL More advanced degrees are Honor Excel lence and D1St1DCt1OH Arleen Farr1s Jumor DePoy Bettv G11 lesp1e Don Lloyd Rlchard Waugh Barbara Wolfe and Roger Gawthrop were holde s of the Degree of Honor 54 CCHS holders of the Degree of Excellence were J1m Br1ggs Sarah Ruth Brown Anne Flsher Lu Ann Lorber Sharon Lowe Betty Shroyer Maumee Tucker Degl ee of D1st1nct1on was held bv Jlm Ad ams Shlrlex Ann Ferguson and D1ck Gates Roger Gawthrop gu1ded the club through 1ts aet1v1t1es thls year He was asslsted by Dck Crates as VICE pres1dent and R1chard Waugh served as recordmg secretary MISS Bertha Thornburgh hard WOI'k1I1fT advlser also serxes as correspondlng secre tary for the CCHS chapter of NFL During the year five new members were xoted 1nto NFL Guest speakers at NFL meetmgs were former members of the or gan1zat1on ,Q - -Q ki pf Q .
