This di- minutive gridder Was defi- nitely the aggressive type. Pete Was a two-year letter- man and will not be back next year. DWIGHT IONES-END Moe stepped into end position the latter part of the season to put in l52 grueling minutes for CCHS. PAUL PBESSLER- LEFT HALFBACK Pret, triple threat man, is another three-year letter- man who will be hard to re- place next year. A good kicker and passer, Pressler was best at broken field running. IOHN VANCE-CENTER Iohn is one player who deserves a lot of credit and hasn't gotten it as yet. Iohn played substitute center for four years and never got into a game until the last game of his senior year. Yet he never missed practice and never shirked his duties, lUNIOB HIVELY-TACKLE Big lunior was a 230 lb. Senior tackle, having played his second year at varsity tackle. Hively fought 218 minutes on the grid this season for CCHS. Page 64 IIM HULL-CENTER Butch was our big, rough and tough center. A three- year letterman, he Was in the thick ot the game from start to finish. Of all the graduating lettermen, lill will be the most difficult to replace. His size and abili- ty made him a threat on any gridiron. HAROLD IACKSON- HALFBACK A speedy reserve halfback playing l58 minutes in his Senior ye-ar, Iackson was a very dependable replace- ment in any game. BOB TRIER-GUARD Foo Trier, playing his first year as a starting guard, behaved on the field like a veteran all year. Not a bril- liant player, but steady and dependable, the kind of guard that plays don't go through, BOB LUCKENBILL-GUARD Bob came out for football in his senior year and im- mediately showed himself to be a football player. Coach Cordier alternated Luke at guard and tackle. Not only a good turfman, Bob also had plenty of pep and aggressiveness. DICK PENCE- QUABTERBACK Dick was Pete's under- study and a very good one. Dick saw quite a bit of ac- tion as signal caller on the eleven last fall and Will be quarterback next year. Bed- headed with lots of pepper, Pence is the typical quarter- back, Sept Sept Sept Sept Oc Oc Oc Oc FOGTBALL SCHEDULE Columbla Co1umb1a Columb1a Columbla Columbla Co1umb1a Columbla Clty C1ty C1ty Crty Clty C1ty C1ty VARSITY Huntmgton 33 Auburn Warsaw Garrett Bluffton Decatur Central CFt Wayne1 92 926 1927 1928 1929 1939 1931 1932 Pr HONOR BLANKET WINNERS Harry Boyd Lelgh Plummer V1Q1l1L1S Ph1ll1ps Kenneth Iohnston Stuart Sm1th Iacob Wolfe Faye Lower Iohn Clark 933 9 4 1935 1936 1937 1938 1939 1940 Charles Hoard Rlchard Langohr Davrd Clugston Martln Stamm Edgar Shoemaker Elbert Rlchards Charles Gage there here here there here here here Bottom Row Nathan Roberts Bob Iel11 son Bob Tr1er Iames Hull Bob Luckenblll lunlor Hlvely B111 Malone Second Row Paul Redman Harold Iackson Eugene Redman Paul e ssler Page 65 , 8 tptttt........ttttttw,., ' ' 6 ......,............w.... Doc will probably shift Harry to some other position next year in order to utilize Harry's speed and aggressiveness. NATE ROBERTS-END Nate, clever right end, shares honors with Butch Hull when it comes to line play. Fast and tricky, Nate could catch a pass or break up an end sweep whenever trouble came his way. His season was cut short by an injury this year, but Nate will be back again next year. BILL MALONE-LEFT END Bill made up the other wing of the line and played -a hard, driving game all season. Bill's only draw- back was his lack of experi- ence. He has that now and should prove to be a whale of an end next year. GENE SHEPHERD- HALFBACK Shep is a 125 lb. sopho- more who loves to play foot- ball. Shep was our streak- ing midget reserve halfback, who covered plenty of ground in the time of play for his Alma Mater this season. FRITZ LANGOHR-GUARD Fritz is an example of fight which makes up for size. One of the smallest players on the team, Fritz was given his chance in the Auburn game and turned in an amazing performance. He has two more seasons to give to CCHS football. BOB IELLISON-TACKLE Bob, playing his first year of football, did very well as a regular who saw plenty of action. Big and rugged, Bob will be back next year to cause no end of worry to his opponents. ED MEYEBS-END Ed is another boy who played his first year of foot- ball last season. Despite his size, Ed showed up well in practice and saw action in several games. Ed will be back again next year. VERLIN JACKSON-GUARD Verlin showed that he had plenty of football ability by making the team as a sopho- more. He played a bang- up game at the guard post last season and will be back for two more seasons. PAUL REDMAN- FULLBACK Redman the second, nose guard and all, a stalwart, tackling fullback, stopped many an enemy advance. Paul was a varsity man from the sophomore class with 363 minutes ot the grind given this year and many more to give in the future. PHIL LOWE-GUARD Ioe is another sopho- more who makes the future look brighter for CCHS foot- ball. Ioe saw some ac- tion as sophomore and will undoubtedly see much more next year. Page 67 BASKETBALL PAUL PBESSLEB, Forward, '40, Pret, standing 5' ll and weighing l60, was our speedy veteran forward. Having played three years of varsity basket- ball, he became the spark plug of the '40 team. NATE ROBERTS, Guard, '4l. Nate, a natural born athlete, shines the brightest at basketball. Clever and resourceful, the opposing team never knows what to expect from him. Nate can best be described on the basketf ball floor as a ball hawk. PETE BEDMAN, Guard, '40 Pete, small but mighty, played guard and displayed plenty of fight and drive. Being a two year letterman, basketball fans will certainly miss this stalwart athlete. DELBEBT BALLARD, Center, '42 Bal' lard, 6', 190 lb. sophomore, was our center the latter part of the season. He played varsity ball as a freshman and will be backbone material for next years cage squad. DWlGl-iT IONES, Forward, 40. Moe was our tall t6'J lanky captain this season. l-le played in the forward position two years as a varsity man.
