THE COLUMBIAN Summary for Year 1918-1919 The year of 1918-1919 has been one of change and progress and has brought forth the largest freshman class of years-eighty members in all. Probably the most notable change occurred in the faculty. The line up of teachers is as follows: Our sturdy and trusty friend, Miss Hallowell, came back to us this year with a big I for principalshipg Miss Edith Spray is English instructor, Miss Chloe Spray comes as music instructor, 'Miss Clark, as History instructor, Miss Bosard, as Vocational instructorg Mr. Thomas, as Science instructor, Miss Risacher, as art instructor, Mr. Barton, as Vocational Agri- culture instructorg a home product, Mr. Waterfall, as Manual Training instructor, the self same Mr. Ihrig back at Mathematics, and at the mid-year Mr. Keller came to render his talented services along the lines of English, Mathematics and Latin. An exhibit of French War Posters was held November 14, 1918, and showed plainly the French idea of war. The gaiety of the French originality is shown in these posters. Debating has been traveling right up to snuff this year, in both junior and senior teams. The debaters have been chosen for the Junior-Senior debate, to be held March 26. The teams seem to be well matched so it is hoped the decision will be a tie. In the Music department the year has been very well spent. We have a well organ- ized High School Orchestra, both Boys' and Girls' Glee Clubs. ln basket ball we boast of strong first and second teams in that a defeat will not disliearten any one of them. The teams have the use of the gym and during the first semester were coached by Mr. Thomas and the last semester by Mr, Barton. The Annual County Track Meet is scheduled for May 10, and we look forward to this meet with thrilling anticipation and clear confidence in our athletes. In the English department the exhibit, Better English, met with such a success, under Miss Spray, that we earnestly hope it will be continued in the coming years. It surely unearthed the hidden talents in the majority of the students. This year we also proudly point to a patriotic school for besides basket ball, debat- ing, track, recreations, and enjoyments, the school pledged 5476.50 to the United War Fund- ALICE B.
