Property of Alumni Ministries Please do not remove. as a crowning ornament or detail. This finial was originally located on the roof of one of the two towers on the old Columbia Bible College campus. It is presently located in the front yard of the President ' s home. The finial: a crowning ornament. FINIAL ' 75 is the crowning ornament for a school year full of the Lord ' s blessings. FINIAL ' 75 DEDICATION: As we pass through the years at Colum- bia Bible College there is one person with whom we all come in contact in some way or another. Generally we meet her our freshman year as we learn what it takes to make it grammatically in college. And now, at the conclusion of her ten years of devoted service, FINIAL ' 75 is lovingly dedicated to Mrs. Mildred Sadler Mrs. Sadler has warmed the hearts of many people with her loving smile. And she has participated with students in many activities: skits, pumpkin cutting con- tests, the annual formal presentation, and so on. As the professor of freshman English she has become very much a part of the generation of students depicted in FINIAL ' 75. She is now retiring after ten years of faithfully serving the Lord as our teacher. She will be greatly missed. We thank the Lord for the shining example she has been to us. if WW Finial ' 75 is a pictorial account of a year in which the Lord showed the Columbia Bible College family mighty miracles, new goals, different horizons, and new accomplishments. It was by His faithfulness that this family has made it to the end of the year. Indeed, at the beginning of the year we cried out to Him to Let Us Know Let Us Know Let Us Press on But knowing is not an easy life. We need to know what to know and how to attain it. There are heartaches, set- backs, and discouragements along with the joys of learning. But the Lord allows us to press on, as He proves ever faith- ful. Top right: John Barber leads the singing at the Student Association summer retreat. Above: Some setbacks are obvious. Right: If we ' re pressing on together, let ' s get this thing moving! Let Us Know, Let Us Press on To Know the Lord Above: The stairway is symbolic of our upward climb. Center: The Lord guides us with competent teaching and counseling from people like Mr. Hatch. Right: This is not just an individual affair. We all join together as we press on to know the Lord. f • : 7 I Our direction is upward as we see the main purpose of our learning: TO KNOW THE LORD. The year has been fruitful, but only because of what He has been teaching us.  Top: We learn about the Lord in times spent alone with Him. Middle: He has provided us with wonderful facilities in which to learn more about Him. Above: Dr. McQuay and Mr. Ferris confer over lunch. Left, the classroom: The most popular place for learning (but not necessarily the most effective.) Let Us Know, Let Us Press on to Know the Lord. His Going Forth Is os Certain as the Dawn mi igP? J — - ill The Lord is working among us. It is as inevitable as the beginning of each day. We are thankful to Him for His consistency. Each day is a day in which we learn more about Him, and so we press on to know Him and to make Him known. Left: Ah! Another day! So we have to go through the routine of getting up. Below: But the morning is also the time for a most impor- tant part of getting to know Him. Left, bot- tom: After the morning routine of getting up, dressed, and fed, and after that special time with the Lord, it ' s off to class! Facing page, top: The sun rises on a lonely, incomplete Student Union center. Bottom left: Maybe I could bounce a quarter on this! Bot- tom right: Some things just have to be done in the W ' IS !W v-v ■ i So we press on. With the help of friends, teachers, staff members, and administrators we press on. The year has been a year of pressing on to know the Lord so that we can make Him known. Following page: FINIAL ' 75 experiments with a new format for providing more coverage of more people and more events. Here is the first of several photographic collages that appear throughout the book. Many activities are pic- tured, showing the unity, the joy, and the serious- ness we experience as we press on . . . PRESSING ON ACADEMICALLY Graduate School Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen The Grad School Emphasizes Bible and Missions Living Interaction For Edification exem- plifies the Grad LIFE Council and the Grad student body. Living each day is exciting with a deepening appreciation for the Word and work of God. Koino- nia groups and social activities provide opportunities for interaction on a deeper level. Weekly chapels, including prayer and praise, guest missionary speakers, and relevant problem-solving seminars, give ample opportunity for edification. Perhaps in your pastor ' s study in Maine, or in your kitchen in Mexico, or on your porch in Melbourne. Wherever you are on this planet, my prayer is that you will be in His plan ... His perfect plan for your life at that moment. And whenever you look back on these pages, remember how God used you in the lives of your peers and professors. Pray for them as we do for you. The love for each other and love for God they demonstrate, coupled with the potential for ministry they display, has been a continual source of blessing. The days ahead will see them scattered in various places and differ- ent ministries. My prayer for each senior is that, ' you may abound yet more and more in knowledge and discernment, ' (Phil. 1 :9) and that you may become more like Him as you labor to make Him known. The Freshman Class: Looking Up, Looking Ahead . . . Striving to know God seems so much easier when we are home with fam- ily and friends. Then God directs us to a totally new kind of life. New people, homes and surroundings — it is hard enough just to stop from shaking. But now we need to start walking faster with Jesus. The desire to serve God and grow to know Him more intimately overpowers our fears and defeats. As a family we seek after our Father ' s righteous- ness. FORTOSIS, class advisor Dr. Fortosis chose to become the freshman advisor because of the insight given to him from teaching in the public high school. His under- standing of the drastic changes a college freshman must make has enabled him to help make the trans- ition much easier. He opened his home on weekends to freshman groups for fellowship. Beth Gieser, Big Sis. Big Brother and Sis ore, in a sense, what the words imply. Rob and Beth are the two peo- ple who assume the leadership and guidance of the class. They not only willingly work with the entire class, but also work with individuals who need special questions answered. FRESHMAN GOALS: 1 . Bring the class together as a body. 2. Develop talents and gifts of each individ- ual. 3. Create a comfortable, relaxed, loving atmosphere. 4. Stimulate friendships with upperclassmen and faculty. 5. Stimulate spiritual growth, worship and motivation for obedience. Hard, diligent work is required. Sometimes part of the class moans under the load. At times Western Man seems unbearable. But when the class of ' 78 feels they are drowning under pages God gives the strength and encourage- ment needed. So no matter how hard or frustrating a course is, the peace of God is with his children. Then, the joy and excitement of following the living God causes the steps to become faster, more sure of their direction. The steps are decisive and determined, each one planted firmly in pursuit of knowing the Savior. If you think this one ' s hard, you should have seen the one in Western Man. Willow Lane, Ambassador Choir, Teams, Church Ministries, and Puffet House are only a few of the many areas in which students minister through Christian Service. CBC students, fed well with spiritual teaching and training, sometimes get fat. Christian Service not only offers good experience, but serves also as an outlet for ministering to others. (Acts 2:42) We sought to get to know each other better through Skit Nite, Esrever Day, The All School Picnic, The Halloween Party, Sing Outs, and Group Dating. We found that as we grew closer to each other, we grew closer to God. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and every one ' Who loves is born of God and knows God. (I John 4:7). We have grown to know Him better, and in Him we have grown to love each other. These days at Columbia Bible College are only preparation for the work that God has planned for our lives. We cannot live on memories, no matter how warm they may be; nor can we thrive on hopes, no matter how bright. We must live each day only to please Him. We can say with Paul: . . . That I may know Him, and the power of His ressurection and the fellow- ship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. (Phil. 3:10-12) Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. This finial was originally located on the roof of one of the two towers on the old Columbia Bible College campus. It is presently located in the front yard of the President ' s home. The finial: a crowning ornament. FINIAL ' 75 is the crowning ornament for a school year full of the Lord ' s blessings. ■ ■i-liilliB: ■ ' . ■ - ■ coiumeia eieiE ? couc ?c?e ;
