Serving as chairman of the music department from 1951-67, Lanner has also directed the summer music school and the summer concert series that provides Colorado Springs with outstanding chamber music. In 1958, Max compiled Notes on the History of the Music Department of Colorado College , covering the department ' s activities from 1874. Lanner is from a Viennese family filled with accomplished musicans; his mother was a concert violinist, his father was a composer, pianist and teacher. Max was a child prodigy on piano and violin. As contributing performer and a source of attraction for numerous nationally known musicans, Lanner has performed with violinist Erica Morini, Nathan Milstein, Grace Moore and others.
