Class Prophecy Tonight being restless and weary with the cares of the day, | longed for a change of scene and time. So closing my eyes and relaxing, | wished myself into the public library of this town ten years from now. | found myself in the reference room of a magnificent new building. As | glanced at the shelves my eyes were attracted to a thin red leather volume. Taking it down | sa w the title was “Who’s Who in Coleridge High School.” Eagerly | read the preface. When | saw how interesting it was | wanted to read more. | shall read it aloud to you. “Who's Who in Coleridge High School’—dedicated to the class of nineteen hundred fifty-four. The only entrants who deserve a place on this roll of honor are the members of the class of nineteen hundred fifty-four, a distinguished and intellectual group. Heading the list was Floyd Williamson, who has completed his second trip around the world and is now repairing anything from a watch to a Diesel engine. Norma Teague is the head of the vocational guidance department of a large co-educational institution in the middle west. Robert Garner, Rear Admiral, is a naval officer and target shooting expert on the U. S. S. North Carolina. Larry Joyce has been three times governor of the State of Florida and is now leader of the Independent Party. His motto is “All for one and that one me.” Iris Garner and Patsy Smith “two old maids” are co-operators of the largest beauty salon in California. Ondra Stout and Russell Cox are co-owners of the huge chain of restaurants known as the Eat and Run Restaurants. They pride themselves in their rise from a hot dog stand in Coleridge to this chain of restaurants in Staley. Ray Moon isa real estate salesman selling Florida lots by the gross to the inhabitants of Labrador and igloos to the dwellers in the Sahara. Attress Kidd is Dean of the Dormitory college for girls and an educator of note: She recently wrote “What Isn’‘t Wrong With Education.” Winford Kidd has become America’s champion pole sitter, non-stop aviator, radio listener, bicycle rider and mammy singer. Waymon Pugh is the wealthy owner of a sanitarium where fat people are made thin and scrawny ones pleasingly plump. Virginia Lowdermilk is the happy wife of a promi nent businessman with the nicest home and best meals in New York. Bobby Gibson, founder and owner of “The Arterial Transfer Company” operates a most successful fleet of trucks serving all the United States. Arlene Craven is a popular model working in New York and popularly known as a “Gibson Girl.” Eddie Whitehead is a plumber’s assistant—the one who goes back for the monkey wrench and can’t find it. He will continue this restful occupation until he dies of old age. Jim Fowler, as a result of reading too many wild tales of adventure, ran away to sea when he was a young man and became a pirate called Black Bar- negat. Having finished reading about all my classmates of fifty-four, | quietly returned the volume of “Who’s Who in Coleridge High School” to its proper niche on the library shelf and stole softly away, basking in the memories of our high school days together.
