UNDERWAY 17 October 1963 was the day many people had been waiting for. USS COGSWELL and 13 other ships left San Diego for a WestPac tour of 6 months. Some were looking for- ward to their first visit to Japan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Many were sad as this day separated them from Wives, families, and Sweethearts. To them no har- gains or beautiful sceneiy could replace those left behind. As COCSWELL sailed that morning, our thoughts turned to the busy days ahead.
