A Queen's Court: Linda Copeland, Queen Beverly, Ann Brower 16 17 STUDY SPORTS CLASS HISTORY A very different class gathered in Room one, on September 7th 1965, than that presently occupying Room ten. Numbering twenty-five, young, naive, and scared, we were fortunate to have Mr. Willey as class advisor. Officers chosen by the class of 1969 were: L. Noyes, President; J. Tuttle, Vice-President; C. Tasker, Secretary; D. Pender, Treasurer; and S. Johnson and W. Strachan, Student Council Representatives. Freshmen Initiation was held, and while it loomed very dark and imposing to us, it proved to be more historic than we knew, as it was the last in the history of the Academy. At the Winter Carnival in February, B. Bailey represented the class as candidate for Winter Carnival Queen. Unfortunately, the Freshmen Class came in last, in scored points. Our Sophomore year opened more cheerfully, and Mr. Willey was our class advisor for another year. Officers chosen were: S. Johnson, President; W. Smith, Vice-President; D. Pender, Secretary; J. Tuttle, Treasurer; and L. Daley and R. Cummings, Student Council Representatives. Instead of the Freshmen Initiation we had looked forward to with such glee, we were disappointed to find that we had to give a reception for the class of 1970. But as a chosen few of the Juniors can testify, exceptions were made in one or two cases. At the Winter Carnival, in a brilliant piece of basketball strategy, the Sophomore boys defeated the Seniors, to capture the Winter Carnival for the class. The class of 1969 had now come into its own, and Queen L. Copeland and King R. Cummings were the first to taste its new found glory. Our happiness at being Juniors and upper classmen was dimmed by the fact that Mr. Willey had left. Our new class advisor was Mr. Ruther- ford, and our class officers were: D. Pender, President; L. Daley, Vice-President; B. Bailey, Secretary; J. Tuttle, Treasurer; and J. Merryfield and W. Smith, Student Council Representatives. The class of 1969 was once again victorious at the Winter Carnival, and D. Pender was crowned Queen at the dance that night. The 1967-68 basketball season, while not a victorious season for Coe-Brown, was a triumph for the Junior class. W. Frost was Co-Captain of the Varsity Basketball Team, and B. Bailey and L. Cope- land were Co-Captains of the Cheerleading Squad. The Junior Prom, the big event of our Junior year, held May 18th, was entitled Polynesian Paradise. B. Bailey was chosen Queen and her Aides were A. Brower and L. Copeland. Three Juniors who brought fame to the class of 1969 were L. Daley, who was elected State F.H. A. President, S. Johnson, who was chosen to attend the 1968 St. Paul's Summer School for advanced studies, and D. Pender, who was awarded the Underwood-Olvetti Award. In June, S. Johnson and R. Cummings were chosen class Marshals, and W. Smith and J. Tuttle, Flag Bearers by the class of 1968. At Class Day, L. Copeland and D. Hersey presented class gifts to the Seniors, and we finally had our chance to pay them back for that long ago Freshmen Initiation. Our Senior year began with a class of twenty-three and a new Class Advisor, Mr. Fisher. Senior Class officers are: W. Smith, President; S. Johnson, Vice-President; B. Bailey, Secretary; W. Strachan, Treasurer; and L. Copeland and L. Noyes, Student Council Representatives. In September J. Tuttle attended the National F.F. A. Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. Later that month the Senior Class won the Magazine sale, throughly trouncing the Junior Class. In sports, W. Smith was Co- Captain of the Soccer team. W. Frost and W. Smith have been chosen Co-Captains of the Varsity Basketball Team, and L. Copeland, Co-Captain of the Cheerleading Squad. Both the Varsity basketball and cheerleaders have new uniforms this year. In November, L. Copeland as Sonya and L. Noyes as Serebryakov play key roles in the production of Chekov s Uncle Vanya , directed by Mr. Whaley. J. Tuttle, stage manager, and R. Chandler helped with the set, and A. Brower handled the make-up department. With only one quarter of the year past, it is difficult to say more, only that, we have high hopes for this year and all those to come. 20 M.O SM¥ SM H.M IMT. f‘M W «I.1HIXI M AfTf •« ' • AM MmK i m ixui «m ill K N(UIM n. A good many things go around in the dark besides Santa Claus. Curiosity is one of the permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous mind. Manner, not gold, is woman's best adornment. The world belongs to the enthusiast who keeps cool. While we stop to think, we often miss our opportunity. The endearing elegance of a fe- male friendship. A faultless body and a blameless mind. I feel like a fugitive from the law of averages. My life is one DERNED horrid grind. You should never wear your best trousers when you go out to fight for freedom and truth. Life is just one dem thing after another. 38 VEINOTE HALL Veinotc Hall, after undergoing extensive renovations, was founded in the summer of 1968. The dormitory, which houses nine students, is supervised by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ching. Kenneth Barnes, a former student at Thomp- son Academy, is House Proctor. The boys at the dormitory begin their day at 6:45 a.m. in time to eat breakfast and catch the school bus. The students return to the hall by bus and their time is free until dinner at 5:30 p.m. An hour and a half of study hall time is required of each student, and lights out is at 10:15 p.m. Mr. Bisson, Dean Castellez, BACK ROW: Kenneth Eaton, Edward Breen, Phillip McCarthy, Paul Varney, Michael Reardon, and Alan Soule: and Kevin McCarthy. 40 SICKBAY BLUES Coe-Brown Senior Home Economics girls, Patti Scribner and Mona Lindahl serve lunch to the dorm boys. 41 FUTURESCOPE SCORPIO Unda D. 10 25 W.
