CLASS HISTORY Our freshman class at Coe-Brown began with 33 members. Our officers were: S. Johnson, President; J. Sherman, Vice-President; J. Barnes, Treasurer; S. Small, Secretary; and W. Marston and J. Brackett represented us on the Student Council. Our worst day of that first year was our initiation which was directed by our Superior Sophomores. During this torturous day, we carried books, hailed Sopho- mores, and performed other tasks. The public initiation was very embarrassing for most of us. The boys competed in a beauty contest, dressed in girl's bathing suits; the girls were dressed in grain sacks and had an exciting inner-tube relay race. Our candidate for Princess of the Coronation Ball was S. Hutchins. We worked hard to beat the Sophomores in the ticket sales and Susan made a very pretty princess. Those participating in sports that year were: G. Pickering, G. Stevens, S. Small, S. Dewey, R. Reese, and J. Brackett in volleyball; J. Barnes and R. Carpenter in soccer; G. Stevens, L. Anthony, J. Veinote, R. Reese, S. Dewey, D. Clark, J. Brackett, and S. Small in softball; S. Johnson, R. Carpenter, J. Barnes, J. Sher- man, and B. Marston in baseball; G. Goldsmith, R. Carpenter, and S. Johnson in basketball; S. Hutchins, L. Anthony, S. Dewey, J. Veinote, R. Reese, and S. Small in girl's basketball. Our Sophomore year, we had only 29 students after losing R. Bruce, R. Pease, W. Laramee, R. Wiley, and S. Bcauman. B. Thomas, D. Copeland, L. Twombly, and D. Boyle joined us druing our second year at Coe-Brown. Our Sophomore officers were: W. Marston, President; G. Goldsmith, Vice- President; S. Hutchins, Secretary; J. Barnes, Treasurer; and J. Sherman and D. Clark were our Student Council representatives. Our first event was the Freshman Initiation. Now, as the Superior Sophomores, it was our turn to have the fun. Then it was again time for the Coronation Ball and Judy Veinote was elected to represent our class for the title of princess. We out-sold the freshmen giving Judy the title. She made as pretty a princess as our last year's candidate. S. Hutchins, J. Brackett, S. Small and S. Dewey were on the volleyball team that year; C. Noyes, R. Carpenter, and W. Marston, soccer; J. Barnes, J. Sherman, R. Shaw, C. Noyes, B. Marston, G. Goldsmith, and R. Carpenter joined the base- ball team; D. Boyle, S. Dewey, S. Hutchins, D. Clark, S. Small and J. Brackett were members of the softball team; C. Noyes, R. Carpenter, G. Goldsmith, and J. Sherman were basketball players with S. Johnson as one of the Managers; R. Reese, S. Dewey, S. Small, J. Brackett, and L. Anthony participated in girl's bas- ketball; and S. Hutchins, D. Clark, and J. Veinote cheered the teams on from the sidelines as Cheerleaders. 20

The Junior year we had 28 members after losing J. Pickering and gaining R. and J. Meyer. Our class officers were: President W. Marston; Vice-President S. Johnson; Secretary, J. Barnes; Treasurer, G. Rhoades; G. Pickering and J. Sher- man, were Student Council representatives. R. Reese was crowned Winter Carnival Queen. Our Junior Prom turned out to be quite a success. G. Pickering was crowned as queen. During the school year we lost: L. Twombly, D. Clark, S. Hutchins, D. Boyle, and R. Meyer. S. Small, R. Shaw, J. Barnes, and W. Marston showed their dramatic skill in the Senior Play, Who Killed Aunt Caroline . The athletes that year were: D. Witham, J. Meyer, R. Carpenter, J. Sherman, G. Goldsmith, R. Kemp, W. Stevens, and S. Johnson (Manager) in basketball; J. Sherman and D. Witham in cross country; D. Witham, J. Barnes, R. Carpenter, R. Shaw, and J. Sherman in soccer; D. Witham, J. Barnes, W. Stevens, B. Leonard, J. Sherman, R. Carpenter, and J. Meyer on the baseball team; R. Reese, S. Small, and S. Dewey in volleyball; L. Anthony, S. Small, and S. Dewey on the girl’s bas- ketball team; S. Small in softball; and R. Reese, J. Veinote, and L. Twombly sat on the sidelines as Cheerleaders. Our class entered a float in the Deerfield Fair titled We Can Make If If We Try. As the Mighty Senior class, we have 28 members. We elected as class officers; R. Shaw, President; G. Rhoades, Vice-President; J. Veinote, Secretary; D. Buzzell, Treasurer; J. Brackett and G. Goldsmith, Student Council Representatives. Judy Brackett was crowned queen of the Winter Carnival Ball. Those participating in the Senior play, The Mouse That Roared were: J. Brackett, G. Pickering, S. Small, R. Reese, J. Sherman, J. Barnes, S. Johnson, G. Rhoades, J. Meyer, G. Goldsmith, and R. Shaw. Those who showed their skill in sports this year were: Volleyball: S. Small, J. Brackett, S. Dewey; softball: S. Dewey, S. Small, J. Brackett; baseball: J. Meyer, J. Barnes, J. Sherman, D. Witham, G. O'Connor; girls basketball: S. Small, S. Dewey, J. Brackett, L. Anthony.
