HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1965 CHAPTER I OUR freshMAN YEAR We began the first of our four years in high school with 40 members -- the largest class ever to enter Coe- Brown Northwood Academy. Mr. Bryant was our class advisor. The first order of business was the election of class officers. We elected as presidentPat Curley; Vice- president -- David Mihachik; secretary -- Donna Gooch; treasurer -- Dottie Ross; Student Council -- Peter Johnson, Polly Blanchard. The first event -- Freshmen Initiation! During the day we performed our duties as slaves for the Superior Sophomores, with a few of us ending up on their black list. On initiation night, dressed in old clothes, we played a terrific game of basketball. To the delight of the audience, six of our boys were the cheerleaders. Participants in sports this year were: volleyball -- Barbara Holmes, Pat Curley, Nancy Beauman; soccer — Ronnie Gardner, Richard Gardner, Herbie Clark; basketball -- Fred Estes, Herbie Clark; softball -- Susan Slade, Jeri Baker, Brenda Merryfield, Beverly McGown, Barbara Holmes, Nancy Beauman; baseball -- David Mihachik, Martin Cantrell, Richard and Ronnie Gardner, Peter Johnson. Throughout the year we sponsored record hops and took part in the annual Coronation Ball. Donna Gooch represented our class as Princess' Aide. Peter Johnson was the only member from our class to take part in the senior play. During the year, Maureen McGown and Ronnie Pevear joined our class, but Eddie LeClair and Paul Mc- Donough left. CHAPTER II BACK AGAIN — AS SOPHOMORES As in our Freshman year, the first thing to do was to elect the members of our class who would lead us for this year. The officers selected were: president -- Peter Johnson; vice-president -- Herbie Clark; secretary — Jane Dalrymple; treasurer -- Donna Gooch; Student Council -- Fred Estes, Pat Curley. Soon it was Freshman Initiation time again -- but now it was our turn to have a little fun, and much en- thusiasm was shown in thinking up terrible things to do to the Freshmen. In addition to those mentioned previously, participants in sports this year were: volleyball -- Barbara 20

Beverly Ross joined our class this year. However we lost Ronnie Gardner, Donna Gooch, David Hoadley, Linda Thomas, Stevie Piworarczyk, Nancy Beauman, and Martin Cantrell. As in previous years, we sponsored record hops, had the milk sale, and other projects to raise money. When spring came, it was time for one of the biggest events of our high school years -- our Junior Prom. We chose An Oriental Night's Dream as our Theme, with beautiful oriental decorations giving the gym the proper atmosphere. Cheryl Noyes was crowned queen, and with the help and hard work of many of our classmates and teachers, our Junior Prom made this a year to remember. CHAPTER IV WE'RE SENIORS NOW! At the beginning of our Senior and final year, we had 23 members; 8 boys and 15 girls, after losing Brenda Menyfield, Maureen McGown, Beverly Me Town, and Lorraine Laramee. Our class officers were: President, Jerilyn Baker; Vice-President, Nancy Jenkins; Secretary, Cheryl Noyes; Treasurer, David Mihachik; Student Council, Pat Curely and Dick Cunningham. We started the year off with a record hop to earn money for our class. This year, the Senior Play Production was Who Killed Aunt Caroline? Representing the Senior class were: Susan Slade, Peter Johnson, Cheryl Noyes, Sarah Low, Pat Curley, and Nancy Jenkins. AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS Sarah Low — Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award. Susan Slade — Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tommorrow Award, Attended Advanced Studies Program at St. Paul's Schoolj Dick Cunningham — Attended the National Future Farmers of America Conference in Kansas City.
