Text from Pages 1 - 76 of the 1965 volume:

We the class of nineteen sixty-five dedicate this, our chronicle, to all of the teachers who have helped us during the past four years. We would like to express special appreciation to Mrs. Burrill, our class advisor. 2 To the Class of 1965: A CHAIN IS NO STRONGER THAN ITS WEAKEST LINK I don't know of which chains each of you will become a part, but there will be many important chains in your lives in which you will be a strong link. Never be the link that lets others down. You are now a link in your class, your community, your state and your nation. You may become a link in a business, a profession, a church or a political party. Whatever your vocation or avocation, none will be more important than the chain of a family. In families, you will be linked in the most important program of developing a home. The links that hold them together will be strong links. Be proud of your family _not tlie car — not the house — not the furnishings — not a lot of things, but your FAMILY. The links to family success arc not necessarily brilliance or beauty, but loyalty, honesty, effort and achievement. Make your family proud of you. Whatever your endeavors, you will encounter other links that may or may not hold. DON'T LET THE LINK THAT FAILS BE YOU. 3 HEADMASTER The Trustees of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy wish to extend Greetings Best Wishes Congratulations To the Class of 1965 Mr. Charles B. Mr. Bryant was our class advisor. The first order of business was the election of class officers. We elected as presidentPat Curley; Vice- president -- David Mihachik; secretary -- Donna Gooch; treasurer -- Dottie Ross; Student Council -- Peter Johnson, Polly Blanchard. The first event -- Freshmen Initiation! During the day we performed our duties as slaves for the Superior Sophomores, with a few of us ending up on their black list. On initiation night, dressed in old clothes, we played a terrific game of basketball. To the delight of the audience, six of our boys were the cheerleaders. Participants in sports this year were: volleyball -- Barbara Holmes, Pat Curley, Nancy Beauman; soccer — Ronnie Gardner, Richard Gardner, Herbie Clark; basketball -- Fred Estes, Herbie Clark; softball -- Susan Slade, Jeri Baker, Brenda Merryfield, Beverly McGown, Barbara Holmes, Nancy Beauman; baseball -- David Mihachik, Martin Cantrell, Richard and Ronnie Gardner, Peter Johnson. Throughout the year we sponsored record hops and took part in the annual Coronation Ball. Donna Gooch represented our class as Princess' Aide. Peter Johnson was the only member from our class to take part in the senior play. During the year, Maureen McGown and Ronnie Pevear joined our class, but Eddie LeClair and Paul Mc- Donough left. CHAPTER II BACK AGAIN — AS SOPHOMORES As in our Freshman year, the first thing to do was to elect the members of our class who would lead us for this year. The officers selected were: president -- Peter Johnson; vice-president -- Herbie Clark; secretary — Jane Dalrymple; treasurer -- Donna Gooch; Student Council -- Fred Estes, Pat Curley. Soon it was Freshman Initiation time again -- but now it was our turn to have a little fun, and much en- thusiasm was shown in thinking up terrible things to do to the Freshmen. In addition to those mentioned previously, participants in sports this year were: volleyball -- Barbara 20 Holmes, Pat Curley, Cheryl Noyes, Priscilla Blanchard, Brenda Merryfield, Susan Slade, Sarah Low, and Jeri Baker; soccer — David Mihachik, Dennis Tuttle, Stevie Piwowarcyzk; basketball -- Fred Estes, Herbie Clark, David Mihachik; baseball -- Lloyd Witham, David Mihachik, Richard and Ronnie Gardner; cheer- leading -- Polly and Priscilla Blanchard, Pat Curley. Peter Johnson represented our class again in the senior year play as puddin' Head Wilson and did a great job. Polly Blanchard was our candidate for Princess of the Coronation Ball; however our class came in second, and Polly became the Princess' Aide. Among those who joined our class this year were Stevie Piwowarcyzk, Linda Thomas, and Sandra Twombly. Among those we lost were Richard Anderson, Fred Estes, Richard Gardner, Kathie O'Reilly, Kenny Pease, Robert Perry, Billy Stevens, Ronnie Pevear, and Dottie Ross. Our sophomore year ended with the sad knowledge that Mr. Bryant, our class advisor, would not be with us next year. CHAPTER III A Year To Remember We began our junior year with 31 members and a new class advisor, Mrs. Elizabeth Burrill. Class officers this year were: president — Peter Johnson; vice-president -- Jeri Baker; secretary — Cheryl Noyes; treasurer — Pat Curley; Student Council -- Herbie Clark; and Sarah Low. Peter Johnson and Cheryl Noyes represented our class in the senior play entitled A Pair of Country Kids. Our class entered a float in the Deerfield Fair this year (the first time a junior class has undertaken this opportunity). Our theme was Go Sports -- Go New Hampshire. We received second prize. Many of our classmates went athletic this year. Participants were: in volleyball -- Susan Slade, Brenda Merryfield, Barbara Holmes, Sarah Low, Polly Blanchard, and Pat Curley; in Soccer -- Dennis Tuttle, David Mihachik, Herbie Clark, David Hoadley, and Ronnie Gardner; in Softball -- Barbara Holmes, Susan Salde, Brenda Merryfield, and Jeri Baker; in Baseball -- Ronnie Gardner, Lloyd Witham; in Basketball -- Jeri Baker, Barbara Holmes; in basketball -- David Mihachik, Herbie Clark, and Ronnie Gardner; in Cheerleading -- friscilla Blanchard and Pat Curley. 21 Beverly Ross joined our class this year. However we lost Ronnie Gardner, Donna Gooch, David Hoadley, Linda Thomas, Stevie Piworarczyk, Nancy Beauman, and Martin Cantrell. As in previous years, we sponsored record hops, had the milk sale, and other projects to raise money. When spring came, it was time for one of the biggest events of our high school years -- our Junior Prom. We chose An Oriental Night's Dream as our Theme, with beautiful oriental decorations giving the gym the proper atmosphere. Cheryl Noyes was crowned queen, and with the help and hard work of many of our classmates and teachers, our Junior Prom made this a year to remember. CHAPTER IV WE'RE SENIORS NOW! At the beginning of our Senior and final year, we had 23 members; 8 boys and 15 girls, after losing Brenda Menyfield, Maureen McGown, Beverly Me Town, and Lorraine Laramee. Our class officers were: President, Jerilyn Baker; Vice-President, Nancy Jenkins; Secretary, Cheryl Noyes; Treasurer, David Mihachik; Student Council, Pat Curely and Dick Cunningham. We started the year off with a record hop to earn money for our class. This year, the Senior Play Production was Who Killed Aunt Caroline? Representing the Senior class were: Susan Slade, Peter Johnson, Cheryl Noyes, Sarah Low, Pat Curley, and Nancy Jenkins. AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS Sarah Low — Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award. Susan Slade — Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tommorrow Award, Attended Advanced Studies Program at St. Paul's Schoolj Dick Cunningham — Attended the National Future Farmers of America Conference in Kansas City. We are looking forward to our Senior Reception, Graduation activities, and our first Alumni Banquet. 22 MEMORIES Although these pictures represent only a few of the many extra- curricular activities we have enjoyed, we will remember them all. Naturally enough, we dreaded Freshman Initiation, but it really wasn't so terrible. We actually had fun working on the float. Then there was the year we were the Class S champions. Our Junior Prom was the first successful one ever held at Co-Brown. Our theme, An Oriental Night's Dream, was well supported by the decorations; and Cheryl Noyes was certainly a lovely queen. 23 CLASS WILL We, the class of 1965, of Coe-Brown, Northwood Academy, being a little feeble of mind and strong spirit, do hereby present this, our last will and testament.
