This was a new experience and it took some time before the class got well acquainted. Meeting the upperclassmen and gaining their friendship was an awesome experience. The first duty of the cla s was to elect their class officers. We elected . President, Fredrick Twombly; Vice-President, Patricia Clark; Secretary, Lynda Gagne; Treasurer, Brenda Smith; Student Council members, Linda Burtt and James Sherman. Our class advisor was Mrs. Stephanie Call. The participants in the sports were Softball: Edith Twombly, Linda Burtt, Mabel Palmer; Basketball: James Sherman, Bruce Linscott, and Fredrick Twombly; •r Baseball: Bruce Linscott and James Sherman; Cheerleading: Linda Burtt and Brenda Smith. The Debating Class, supervised by Mrs. Stephanie Call, included:' Sandra Elliott, James Sherman, and Bruce Linscott. « Our one big event of this year was the Freshman 'Initiation conducted by the sophomore class. They really enjoyed giving us the works but we weqt along with the fun, and were very co-operative. Before completing our freshman year, our class was very sorry to lose Beverly Gardner, Ethel McKenney, Marion Clark, and Patricia Clark. In the fall of 1957 we returned as sophomores with twenty-three members in our class. In a few days following our return, we held our first class meeting and elected the following officers: President, Bruce Linscott; Vice- President, Fredrick Twombly; Secretary, Linda Burtt; Treasurer, Many Neilsen; Student Council members, James Sherman and Lynda Gagne. The class was happy to gain Roberta Chesley, Mary Neilsen, Everett Welch, Ronald Welch, and James Jordan. This increased our class to twenty-eight members. Char first exciting event was planning for the Freshman Initiation which was held on October 10, under the direction of Mrs. Phyllis MacPherson. It was now our turn to have some fun with the freshmen, and fun it was. Mr. Jordan held a meeting in the school auditorium to plan our first Winter Carnival Ball. It was scheduled for March 2, 1958. A candidate for queen was to be chosen from each class. Linda Burtt was selected by our class. We proudly came in second. Most of us were very athletic this year. Those who participated in sports were Softball: Linda Burtt, Janet Hoadley, Edith Twombly, Mabel Palmer, Lynda Gagne, and Carolyn Hodgdon; Soccer: James Sherman, James Jordan, and Bruce Linscott; Basketball: Bruce Linscott, James Sherman, and James Jordan; Baseball: James Jordan, Bruce Linscott, and James Sherman; Cheerleading: Mary Neilsen. Linda Burtt and Bruce Linscott had parts in the Senior Play. Although we started with twenty-three members, we lost Carolyn Hodgdon, Gerald Shepard, Sandra Stack, Carol Young, Janice Young, and Terrence Higgins, thus cutting our membership to twenty-two. At our final meeting of the year we ordered our class rings for delivery in the fall. After our summer vacation we were all eager to see our friends and tell of our many experiences. We were happy to have Carl Billings, Joan Jeralds, Robert Neal, Carolyn Hodgdon, and Susan Savard Join our class. However, during the year we were sorry to lose four of our members: Terry Higgins, Roberta Chesley, Sandra Elliott, and. Joan Stack. After getting acquainted with our new members and getting back into the routine of school, we held a class meeting and elected the following class officers: President, Mary Neilsen; Vice-President, Bruce Linscott; Secretary, Linda Burtt; Treasurer, Brenda Smith; Student Council, James Jordan and Carol Farr. We were happy to have Mrs. MacPherson as our class advisor. We were delighted to receive our class rings, although some did not keep them very long. Our candidate for queen for the second annual Coronation Ball was Mary Neilsen. She was crowned queen at the Ball, despite Spencer's last-minute deluge of votes for the freshmen. Carl Billings and James Sherman represented our Junior class in the Senior Play, The Night of January Sixteenth. Our representatives for the Woman's Club Essay Contest were Susan Savard and Carol Farr. Susan Savard won first prize for her short story. « On April 30 the school put on a very successful Minstrel Show under the direction of Mrs. Gfroferer. Edith Twombly, Janet Hoadley, Harriet Goddard, Susan Savard, Everett and Ronald Welch, and the Deerfield Debs represented our class in this event. On May 8 we held our Junior Prom, the theme of which was Moonlight and Roses. Mary Neilsen was chosen queen with Brenda Smith and Harriet Goddard as her aids. Those who participated in sports our Junior year were: Basketball: James Jordan, James Sherman, Bruce Linscott, Everett Welch; Baseball: James Jordan, James Sherman, Ronald Welch, Benjamin DeButts; Soccer: Bruce Linscott, James Jordan, James Sherman, Everett Welch, Ronald Welch; Cheerleading: Mary Neilsen; Softball: Janet Hoadley, Carolyn Hodgdon, Mabel Palmer; and Volleyball: Mabel Palmer. September 1959 found, us back at CBNA, ready for a busy senior year. We were sorry to have lost Carolyn Hodgdon, Ronald Welch, and Susan Savard, leav- ing us with twenty members. At our first class meeting we elected the follow- ing officers: President, Bruce Linscott; Vice-President, James Jordan; Secre- tary, Mary Neilsen; Treasurer, James Sherman; Student Council, Carol Farr and Benjamin DeButts. Mrs. MacPherson, our class advisor, was soon busy working with us on our float for the Deerfield Fair. World Peace was decided on as our theme. Four students were chosen to ride on the float: James Sherman as Mr. K., Benjamin DeButts as Ike, Lynda Gagne as a Russian girl, and Linda Burtt as an American girl. Thanks go to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Smith for the use of their barn, Mr. Linscott for the use of his truck, and Mrs. MacPherson and the class for spending so much time on the float. We received second prize. Our Senior Play, Family Circle, was the highlight of our senior year. The play was a comedy of the 1920 era. The costumes we wore were something we will never forget. Thanks to the expert direction of Miss Ward and out- standing acting by Edith Twombly and James Sherman, the play was a complete success. Our candidates for king and queen for the third annual Coronation Ball were Benjamin DeButts and Cynthia Stevens. For the second year we took the crown, thanks to the efforts of our salesmen. This year Linda Burtt, Bruce Linscott, and James Jordan were our repre- sentatives in the annual Woman's Club Essay Contest. Bruce Linscott won second prize with his essay, The Story of Flight, and Linda Burtt took third prize with her essay, School Crisis. Representing our class in the sports were; Basketball: Bruce Linscott, James Jordan, James Sherman; Soccer: James Jordan, Bruce Linscott, James Sherman, Everett Welch; Cheerleading: Mary Neilsen; Softball, Mabel Palmer; Volleyball: Mabel Palmer; Baseball: James Jordan, James Sherman, Everett Welch. John Nixon Richard Kennedy Linda Burtt Edith Twombly CLASS PROPHECY The Class of i960 thought it appropriate to hold its first class re- union in the gymnasium of the addition to Coe-Brown Northvood Academy. It doesn't seem possible that it has been ten years since the group of twenty ambitious students were graduated. The first one to arrive is Carl Billings and his little band. Carl is supplying the music for dancing. I think I heax a car. Yes, it's Linda Burtt and Edith Twombly. They are both employed as tellers at the Concord National Bank. They got their wish to be roommates. Next in line is Benjamin DeButts. Bennie is now working in the TV series Cannonball, driving the C A Transport truck. Oh, here's Nancy Farr. Nancy is a registered nurse for the Red Cross in the Belgian Congo. She flew back for the class reunion. Harriet Goddard Just arrived. She has two Jobs: housewife, and, in her spare time, receptionist for Doctor Frederick Twombly. Lynda Gagne's wish to be married and raise a large family came true. Now all her troubles are little ones. Another car has arrived; it is James Jordan and Carol Farr. James' love for chemistry really paid off. He is now a research engineer for the DuPont Company and Carol is his private secretary. Here comes Joan Jeralds. Joan is now a captain in the Women's Air Force. She is stationed at Grenier Air Force Base in Manchester. Everett Welch is a politician and finally has his wish to run for Governor of New Hampshire. Why, here is James Sherman. James graduated from U.N.H. and is now making the Marines his career. Janet Hoadley is married and lives in Waltham, Massachusetts. She commutes to Boston where she is employed at the Jordan Marsh Company as an accountant. We just received word that Bruce Linscott has landed at Pease Air Force Base in a Saber Jet, which he pilots. Besides being a pilot, he is an Air Force Engineer in Hawaii. Mabel Palmer came from Kentucky to be with us today, leaving her husband, Jack, to care for their children. Cynthia Stevens was required to travel only a short distance because her residence is in Deerfield. She is a private secretary for her husband One of her duties is to take messages he receives over his two-way radio. The last of the men to arrive is Robert Neal, who is head Automotive Engineer at the Ford Motor Company in Detroit. Brenda Smith graduated from the Hesser Business College in Manchester She went to work as secretary for the sales manager of Sears Roebuck in Concord. The last of our twenty graduates to arrive is Mary Neilsen. Mary is a nurse at Cedar Lebanon Hospital in California. It appears that the Class of i960 has prospered in the last ten years Let us hope that they will continue to do so in the years to come.
