Class Officers for this year were: President W. Edward Bryant Jr. Vice-President ------- Doris Holmes Secretary ------------------------- Barbara De Meritt Treasurer Frank Lovely Student Council Barbara De Meritt Robert Magoon We were proud to have Miss Ward as our advisor this year. On December 3, we had our first social of the year. It was a Sadie Haw- kins dance and a “Soc Hop” combined with a square dance. Bob Bennett from Concord was the caller. This year Doris Holmes, Arthur Slade and Shirley Young were our representatives in the Annual Woman’s Club Essay Contest. All three of them walked off with prizes. Doris with first prize, Arthur with second, and Shirley with third. In softball we had Virginia Wood, Doris Holmes, and Shirley Young. Barbara De Meritt, Constance Mifflin, Lorraine De Butts and Virginia Wood were on the cheerleading squad from our class. In baseball, we had Frank Lovely, George Hill and Roger Witham. Reta Shepard, Shirley Young and Dotty Holmes were on the volleyball team, Junior boys on the basketball team were Frank Lovely, and Roger Witham. We had Albert Burtt and Frank Lovely on the cross country team. On May 6, 1955 we held our Junior Prom. Music was furnished by Millie’s Melodiers. We chose as our theme “Stardust”. Connie Mifflin was chosen as our queen. Her aids were Virginia Wood and Doris Holmes. SENIOR YEAR All too soon we started our senior year. We were sorry to see that we had lost Connie Mifflin and George Hill. At our first class meeting we elected the following officers: President Shirley Young Vice President ................. Virginia Wood Secretary ------------------------ Barbara De Meritt Treasurer Marcia Williams Student Council Barbara De Meritt Robert Magoon We presented our annual senior play “Seventeenth Summer” on Nov- ember 21 and 22, 1955. As usherettes we chose Joyce and Etta Yeaton, from the junior class. We entered a float in the Deerfield Parade and received second prize on it. It was based on the 100 anniversary of The Old Man of The Mountain. Shirley Young was the only girl that went out for volleyball. Lorraine De Butts and Virginia Wood were the head cheerleaders. In softball we had Shirley Young, Dotty Holmes, and Barbara Pender. In baseball we had Robert Magoon, Robert Wentworth, James Corbin and John O’Conner.

SENIOR CLASS HISTORY During the early part of September in the year 1952, a group consist- ing of 31 Freshmen entered Coe-Brown. Our first important event was the holding of a class meeting. During this meeting we elected our class officers and student council representatives. President Edward Bryant Vice President Lorraine DeButts Secretary Constance Miffin Treasurer Barbara DeMeritt Student Council Barbara DeMeritt Robert Magoon Chronicle Reporter Doris Holmes Barbara DeMeritt and Edward Bryant were chosen to represent our class in the prize speaking contest. Edward Bryant was awarded second prize. Our class was very well represented in both girls and boys sports that year. Our class put on a St. Patrick’s Day social. We had square dancing and refreshments. All who attended enjoyed themselves. SOPHOMORE YEAR Here we were, back again on September 6, 1953. This time only 24 out of the original 31 returned. Our first task, the same as the year before, was election of class officers and student council. Virginia Wood proudly took first prize and Barbara DeMeritt received second. We had even a greater percentage of the class of this year participating in both the girl’s and boy’s sports. On October 8, 1953, the Sophomore Class held its Freshman initiation social. There was also a square dance on March 18th. Guy Mann was the master of ceremonies. We had a wonderful time. JUNIOR YEAR We started the year with 22 members, but soon lost Roger Witham, Richard Sawyer, Alfred Bean, Mary Heath, and Frank Lovely. Soon after starting though, we gained John O’Connor.

In the Annual Woman’s Club Essay Contest we had Shirley Young, Dotty Holmes, and Arthur Slade as representatives from our class. Dotty got first prize, Arthur second, and Shirley honorable mention. We had a successful year in Prize Speaking. Anne Witham received first prize with her “Mary White.” Shirley Young got second with “Robert Frost’s Poems.” Soon after, we started working on graduation. It was announced that Albert Burtt was valedictorian and Dotty Holmes Salutatorian. For our Baccalaureate Service on June 3, and the Graduation Exercise on June 4, we chose Etta and Joyce Yeaton as our Marshalls. The evening of our graduation we had our Senior Reception. In our class trip we went to the White Mountains. We had a very en- joyable time. At the model assembly of the Council of Europe in Spaulding High School, our class was represented in the delegation from Denmark by Arthur Slade. CLASS WILL We the class of 1956, of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, being of al- most sound mind and body, do hereby promulgate this legal document to be our last will and testament. Article I: We, the Senior class, do hereby will and bequeath our bubbling persona- lities, good looks, and high intelligence ratings, to the Junior class, to help you through your Senior year. Article II: I, James Corbin, do hereby will and bequeath, my women Mildred Pec- tle and Eleanor Kelly to anyone who would appreciate them. Article III: I, Geraldine Twombly, do hereby will and bequeath, my tiny figure to George Witham. You know, George, small figures come in handy some- times. Article IV: I, Virginia Wood, do hereby will and bequeath, my ability to do things and not get caught to Gail Hoadly. I hope you make out as well as 1 did. Article V: I, Barbara DeMeritt, do hereby will and bequeath, my sweet disposition and complete tranquillity to Eleanor Kelley, and hope it will help you to avoid further scuffles in the girls’ room.
