Student Council Philip Shepard Clarence Batemen On December 8th, we were initiated as freshmen by the sophomore class. Joyce Merrill played the violin in the All-State festival. SOPHOMORE YEAR In the fall of ’52 we came back with only 13 from the original 20. We elected the following as officers: President Norma Witham Vice-President Clarence Batemen Secretary, Treasurer Shirley Wells Student Council Joan Mihachik Everett Robinson We held two socials, the freshmen initiation and a square dance. Philip Shepard left in the middle of the year to join the Navy. JUNIOR YEAR We started the year off with 13 juniors, but soon lost 3. Later we welcomed a new member, Dave Freitas, from Deerfield. The officers for the year were: President ............................... Everett Robinson Vice-President Joan Mihachik Set rotary „ Shirley Folsom Treasurer........................ ........ Norma Witham Student Council Eleanor Jacques George Demmons Joyce Merrill represented the class at the Girls’ Track and Buddy Demmons at the Boys’ Track. On February 18, we held our social, “The Record Hop,” with card tables and frappes. The rings the class ordered finally came. The class took a trip to Manchester to see the movie Julius Caesar. We were represented in the Prize Speaking Contest by George Demmons and Joyce Merrill, and in the Essay Contest by Joan Mihachik, who took first prize, Shirley Folsom and Norma Witham. Also Joan Mihachik, Shirley Folsom, and Norma Witham went to the Older Girls’ Conference. Ellen Lovely and Shirley Folsom were chosen as usherettes for the Senior Play. SENIOR YEAR It wasn’t too long after finishing our junior year when we were at last seniors. We started our year olf with 10 members, with Mr. Leskowitz as our advisor. Treasurer Student Council Ellen Lovely Eleanor Jacques George Demmons One of the highlights of this year, was entering a float in the Deerfield Fair. The class had just as much fun making the float as winning first prize. On November 22-23, 1954, the class presented a play. Nine Girls. The whole class participated in this affair and we are proud to say it was a success. After it we had a swell time at the party given by Mr. and Mrs. Leskowit .. The senior class sponsored the Christmas party for the school. We were represented in many contests this year: In the Essay Contest by Beverly Thiem and Norma Witham; at the Prize Speaking Contest by Joan Mi hachik and Beverly Thiem, who took second prize; and by Joyce Merrill who won third place in the Art Contest. Norma Witham was chosen as the I)AR citizen from the senior class. Shirley Folsom went to the Older Girls' Conference this year. Joan Mihachik won the Betty Crocker Future Homemaker honor this year She also went to the Youth and Government Conference. In April, we received our announcements and sent for our caps and gowns. Our Valedictorian was Joan Mihachik, Salutatorian went to Norma Witham, and Beverly Thiem and Everett Robinson were named as honor students. During the 4 years the following people participated in sports: George Demmons Basketball, Baseball, Cross Country David Freitas .........—........................... Baseball Everett Robinson ....................... Basketball, Baseball Shirley Folsom........ Cheerleading Joyce Merrill ............................... Cheerleading Norma Witham Volleyball Eleanor Jacques............................... Cheerleading Joan Mihachik ...................................... Volleyball The time flew, and graduation came. We held various activities — Class Day, Alumni Baseball Game, and the class trip. Then after these affairs, the great events were fulfilled, Baccalaureate and finally graduation. The Senior Reception was on the evening of June 6. We, the senior class of 1955, can say we profited and enjoyed our 4 years at Coe-Brown; although we had our troubles we can remember lots of good times.
