Foreigners Influence CHS Cody High was pleased To have The youngesf Rofary For- eign Exchange STudenT Alejan- dra Garza, 47, for The '87-88 school year. Alejandra, or Alex To her friends, is from Monferrey, Mexico, which is a ciTy of abouf 516 million people. When asked abouT slaying in a small Town like Cody, Alex replied, I like Cody because IT is a neaT Town and iT is easier To geT around in Than MonTerrey. Mexico is similar To The UniTed STaTes in many ways. The music is basically The same ex- cepf There is a wider varieTy, like music from Spain. Many iTems, like cloThes and appliances, are made in The UniTed STaTes, she said. NoT surprisingly, The mosT popular food in' Mexico is The Taco. Alejandra is a sophomore aT Cody High School, buT many of her classes are on a Junior-Senior level. I really enjoy The classes I am Taking here, she said. Ac- Tively involved in many exTracur- ricular acTiviTies, Alex is on The colorguard: helped The cheer- leaders wiTh dance roufines: and was on The speech Team, in which she compeTed in poeTry and won many awards. Ouf of school she sTayed jusf as busy Taking dance classes such as jazzworks, balleT, and jazz. There also came The many public duTies of being a Rofary Foreign Exchange STudenT, like giving speeches and meefing wiTh people. As far as clofhing sTyIes are con- cerned he says dress codes are more sTricT and a IoT of The sTyles worn would noT look as good as American sfandards and would be looked down on. Carlos is from Madrid, The capiTal of Spain. According To him, Teens go To discos Qdance clubsp every weekend for enfer- Tainmenf. They usually go in groups, buT pair off inTo couples when dancing and socializing. Parfies appear To be as popular in Spain as They are in America. Francisco said, ln Spain There is no drinking age. So when you would go ouT in The sTreeTs There would jusT always be a parTy: aloT of Them go on all nighf long. Carlos said ThaT many of The par- Ties Take place aT discos. However boTh Francisco and Carlos claimed ThaT life in Amer- ica was differenf Than They ex- pecfed IT To be. The classes are less serious, and The subjecfs are noT as difficulf as Carlos Thoughf They would be.
