I Chip presents Shad with gift. Are you sure it will fit? FOOTBALL SEA SON The Cody Broncs opened their 1959 season with two non-conference games and they looked good in both. On September 4, the Broncs took Laramie 12 to 6 at Laramie . The Broncs had 20 first downs to their 12. Total yardage was 362 for Cody to Laramle's 214. As you can see the whole team worked well as a unit. Cody lost to Scottsbluff 19-21 . The loss was due to a bad play which gave Scottsbluff the winning touchdown. According to the official, Cody's illegal substitution lost the opposing team a touchdown. Our coach, Shad Martoglio, said the Scottsbluffgame was a moral victory. The following week the Lovell Bulldogs fell to the Broncs by a score of 19-7. With the memory of Cody's California playoff victory of last year still rankling, the Worland Warriors were on the warpath when they played the Broncs . The Warriors won this game 18-6. Our team played their best but could not overcome the Warriors. Riverton was out for Cody too and the final score was 13-13. Riverton won the California playoff by gaining 21 yards. Lander was waiting to play Cody but the Broncs had one advantage and that was they were playing on the home field. With this the Broncs walked off with a 14-6 victory. Thermopolis played Cody for their homecoming, but it was a sad day for the Bobcats because they lost 29-0. October 30, was the scene of our homecoming and we were to meet the Greybull Bluffs. You can never tell what the Wyoming weather is going to do and on the night of the annual bonfire and snake dance, we had one of our winter blizzards. Due to this the game on Friday night'was postponed until Saturday afternoon, but this did not dampen the spirits of the football team. The Broncs handed Grey- bull a 45-25 defeat. This was the last game for the Senior boys on their home field and they played their hearts out for their school and fans. The last game of the season was with our traditional rivals the Powell Panthers. In bitter sub-zero weather the Broncs played a brilliant game and handed Powell their first defeat on their home field for the first time in many years. Because of team effort they played outstandingly in this game. The final standings for the 1959 football season were Worland in first place, Cody in second place and Powell in third place. All in all it was a very good season and we stood behind our team all the way.
