Ah ■■. ■' , ™ ' ™ Sfelts -« P« « ' Pi W y to the student, . high school will be the passing of a generation of ideas and concepts which give promise to the fu- ture; and studies which enhance the realities of today. Reflected within the student ' s life are the many moods surrounding school spirit; enthusiasm, achievement and pride. This is a generation of classes and causes, in which the student each day builds a new experience, with victories rising above defeats and thoughts going beyond words— Our campus is only buildings but our school is students. It is to this generation of students that the 1966 staff dedicates the COBRE CHIEFTAIN. One generation passeth away, and another gene- ration Cometh; but the earth abldeth forever . . . The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to the place where he arose . . . The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirl- eth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits . . . All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. We, as citizens of the United States, have the choice and opportunity to improve ourselves and others. We have a heritage to uphold and strengthen and I think our generation has the capabilities to do just this. Often called the leaders of tomorrow, we should be termed the leaders of to- day for it is now when our true character develops. Our parents and grandparents have set up a good educational system but we must use it properly. We should obtain all possible information on world affairs; we should set up a high code of morals for ourselves— try to realize that all men are created equal and erase any and all forms of discrimina- tion. Then we must strive to help others see this as an effective way of preserv- ing democracy. Once we become aware of what Is a threat to our basic way of life, we can then combat it. Once we understand the meaning of democracy, we can then choose whether to keep it or not. I know it shall live as long as citizens interested in our nation ' s welfare continue to participate and im- prove our present way of life. For the graduate, the future holds the challenge of success, the challenge to dem- onstrate clearly the knowledge he has gained in years of schooling. Kennecott ' s Chino Mines Division will always welcome the graduate into its personnel for positions made available by its ever-growing operations. These graduates are essential to Kennecott ' s fu- ture, for the ideas of young minds are Ken- necott ' s best assurance of continued suc- cess in planning, research and develop- ment of operations. Perhaps you can be- come a part of Kennecott ' s Chino Mines Division, and help strengthen its position in the world of copper and other non-fer- rous metals. For the people of New Mexico, this holds the prospect of continued benefits from Kennecott, some of which will help support the state ' s educational system. f JSennecoti Copper Corporation Chino Mines Division Santa Rita, Hurley, New Mexico 198 DRS. The willingness and participation of Cobre ' s students and the interest shown by the faculty in our various activities were appreciated by our staff. Especially helpful during the lost eight months of assembling the CHIEFTAIN was the good advice and welcome suggestions from our sponsor, Mrs. Catherine Smith. Our 1966 CHIEFTAIN will be a direct reflection of what you, the Cobre students, have done to make this year a memorable one, as well as the support you have given us in the production of our yearbook. 216 •; ' % i .,  ' •
