Wrestlers ake Down pponents 1977-78 Arab Varsity Wrestling had an outstanding season this year as the team used their power and skill to suppress their opponents. Head Coach Ysmael Ruiz worked diligently with his wrestlers and saw much improvement throughout the year. With 11 returning lettermen, two of them all leaguers, C.V. became Tri-Champs posting a 4-1 league record and 8-1 overall as our only loss came to Calexico. The highlight meet of the season came when the well prepared Arabs crushed arch-rival Indio High Rajahs with a 36-24 win. Individually C.V, had many Arabs gaining Victories at tournaments. Senior Mark Ahrens had an unbelievable 29-2 record also placing hrst in the El Centro and Bolsa Grande Tournaments, Fontana Take-down, and second in the Holtville Tourney. Freshman Carlos IVleza surprised all as he posted many wins in the 97 lb. weight category. uWe did well but I wish we could have won it all commented Coah Ruiz. alm Athletics 63

Read , W1'estlel If finally happened! The wrestling team got the student support it has long deserved. In past years wrestling has not been given the recognition by students that it merits. Wrestling is novv becoming the popular and well attended sport that it should be. The J.V. vvrestlers have been successful this year. They have had many bright moments and came out on top vvith all their matches. HWith such a good group vve have high hopes for the future commented Coach Nick Ramos. UThe Arab freshmen vvrestling team went undefeated throughout the season and vvon a 4-vvay meet a Coachella Valley commented Coach Steve Waggoner.
