Though the Varsity team did not place first in the league, they did place second. They held a record of 3-1. Standouts for the team were Elias Diaz, Jesse'Cota, and Ernie Vasquez, who was voted lVIost Valuable Runner. The Junior Varsity team also did well. With standout Nlike Garcia and IVIVP Ramon Alvarado, the Arabs were able to obtain second place. The Freshmen team was V excellent as they gained a league record of 4- O and first place. lVlarco Nicacio was the outstanding runner there. For the girl's,'lVlVP was Freshman JoJo Cota. 6. Varsity Boy's: lFrontl: Domingo Felix, Jesse Cota, Elias Diaz, Victor Felix, iBackl: Coach Davidson, Juan Estrada, Ernie Vasquez, and Coach Villarreal. 7. Champions in 778 The 1977-1978 Varsity Basketball Team at Coachella Valley High School was the best is has been in years. With six returning lettermen and all leaguer Jeff Norris, CV had an outstanding chance for taking the 1978 D.V.L. crown with four starters returning. In Pre-season play CV held a 9-1 record also taking first in the Annual Beaumont Tournament in which Jeff Norris was named the lVlost Valuable Player. Following the Calexico victory, the Arabs clinched their first D.V.L. crown ever. 1. Varsity Basketball Stats. Anita lVleraz, Judy Nishimoto, Susan Nlusashi. 2.
