The Varsity basketball team of Coach Marvin Dennis after two years of grooming finally hit pay dirt. Led by three junior stars: Tom Hoffman, Dick Dean, and Pete Gomez, they posted the best sea- son record of any Arab varsity with a 24 won — 5 lost record. The Arabs also won the RCL cage crown with a 12-2 record and advanced into the CIF semi- finals before losing to Escondido. In the RCL the Arabs led by Dick Dean in the first few games got off to a good start winning the entire first round with the climax a 34-31 win over the Banning Broncos. Then, seemingly suffering from the fat head the Arabs lost 2 straight. The Arabs then hit hard in the last 5 games, Dean averaging 16 points a game and hitting 19 in a 51-41 win over Banning in the title decider. In post season playoffs the Arabs first edged Holt- ville and then Buena Park winning both games by 2 points. Then against Escondido in the semi-finals the Arabs had their worst night of the year, hitting 20°o from the floor, losing 51-37.
