On the more adventurous side of summer life, several members of Key Club journeyed north to attend the 44th annual international con- vention in Canada. They learned more about their international theme, For friendship's sake, and attended many workshops where they learned more about the responsibilities of all Key Clubbers. All who went, reported having a great time meeting new friends from different parts of the world and touring Canada. Taking the trip of a lifetime, Angie and Alyssa Reed, Mendy Miller and Mrs. Huff journeyed across the ocean to tour Europe. Out of the seven countries they explored, Switzerland was a favor- ite because of the beautiful coun- tryside and wonderful people. The biggest change the travelers expe- rienced was the different cultures. I noticed an immediate change as soon as I stepped off the plane, Angie Reed said. But then, everyone woke up one morning at the unearthly hour of 6:30 and summer was over. lt was time to face reality and head back to the salt mines . CCopy by Toni Robinsonj 11

THE HEAT IS ON! While most students spent their summer goofing off, those belong- ing to certain organizations found themselves very busy preparing for the year ahead. The officers of the student coun- cil traveled with Mrs. Kaiser to Nacogdoches to attend a week- long camp at Stephen F. Austin. They worked hard on improving their leadership abilities. We went to learn, but we had fun too, Rich- ard Sheffield said of the camp. With seven new members, the yearbook staff participated in a week-long workshop at UT in Aus- tin. They got a taste of the work it takes to produce a great yearbook, and they learned that with dead- lines comes homework, even at camp. The cheerleaders prepared for the new year by attending camp at HSU in Abilene. Their hard work proved profitable. They brought home the spirit stick and Mendy Miller was first runner-up for best all-around mascot. Also working hard for the coming year was the newly organized drill team. The girls attended camp at HSU where each member learned a separate dance to teach to the other members. The pep squad and band both held clinics closer to the end of summer to prepare for the coming 10

The, Homecoming nominees for 1987 - Whitney Ralston, Myra Payne, Mechelle Chrane, and Jill Howle - take time out for a smile. John Carpenter, a new driving force on the Bulldog defense force, re-evaluates his previous Quarterback sack in the homecoming game. Kelley Kapke shows his enthusiasm during the downtown Pep Rally.
