CL SS HI TORY The year of 1940 brought to the class of 52 a new world. To some it was a gay adventure, and to others it was a tearful experience. This strange world brought about many new acquaintances and life long friends. In this first year we all got the measles, causing the school to be closed for some time. After the first year had passed, we undertook the second wtih much more enthusiasm and confidence. We were in a play called Goldie Locks and the Three Becr.rs. This was the year that Miss Bertha washed Gerry Bookmyer's mouth out with soap for whistling maple seeds in school. What a year! The third and fourth grades came next, and we had learned many fascinating games like Tick-Tock- Double-Lock and the boys chasing the girls and visa versa. The fourth grade was also the year that we started having different teachers for our classes. We were rather bewildered and excited about all this, and we also started studying harder. The fifth grade didn't prove very exciting for most of us, but some were chosenfor the grade chorus. The fad for the year-beanies. The sixth grade made us feel pretty big since we were the oldest group in the building, but when we came to the seventh grade, we were rather small people in a big world. Cheering took on a new interest for us. Soon the eighth grade was here and each year we were gaining more momentum. This year Mr. Koester assumed responsibilities as our class sponsor along with Mrs. Frederikson. This was the first year that we had a class picnic. Then we were freshmen. At last the best days of our school career were here. Mrs. Sarvis came this year replacing Mrs. Frederikson as assistant class sponsor. We entered a float in the Halloween parade and received a prize. That was a year for fun. The tenth grade hurried upon us and we had to start working to make some money. To do this we had a movie, and again a float which received a prize. We had a few birthday parties that year and in the year that followed. The eleventh grade, the biggest and best year yet, finally arrived. We were all excited about the play The Night of Icmuary l6th . and our prom, with the theme of Bon Voyage. We again had our movie, bake sale, scrap drive, a very successful Halloween dance, and another prize float. We had a very full year. At last we have come to the end of a long journey, only to start a new and strange adventure. This, our Senior Year, is one to which we have long looked forward. This year we had our senior play, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay , and a school assembly which was a Minstrel Show. The year has been highlighted with plans for graduation. Even though we have lost many members of our group through the years, we have gained many others. ft has been a long, but wonderful, journey, 19
