A The Twelve years ago We started to school To have a lot of fun, But soon we saw a more serious side For each and every one. We saw our lives start taking shape Like a flag that's being unfurled, And knew We'd have to work very hard For a place in this big Wide World. Now soon We'll all be parting, Each one will go his Way But with a hopeful thought in mind, Oi meeting again someday. -Robert Fox 1952 Il In COUWER Dedication The class of 1952, in deep appreciation of the personal attitude and the many fine things he has brought to our school, wish to dedicate our yearbook, The Courier, to Mr. Albert Osborne. . To some it was a gay adventure, and to others it was a tearful experience. This strange world brought about many new acquaintances and life long friends. In this first year we all got the measles, causing the school to be closed for some time. After the first year had passed, we undertook the second wtih much more enthusiasm and confidence. We were in a play called Goldie Locks and the Three Becr.rs. This was the year that Miss Bertha washed Gerry Bookmyer's mouth out with soap for whistling maple seeds in school. What a year! The third and fourth grades came next, and we had learned many fascinating games like Tick-Tock- Double-Lock and the boys chasing the girls and visa versa. The fourth grade was also the year that we started having different teachers for our classes. We were rather bewildered and excited about all this, and we also started studying harder. The fifth grade didn't prove very exciting for most of us, but some were chosenfor the grade chorus. The fad for the year-beanies. The sixth grade made us feel pretty big since we were the oldest group in the building, but when we came to the seventh grade, we were rather small people in a big world. Cheering took on a new interest for us. Soon the eighth grade was here and each year we were gaining more momentum. This year Mr. Koester assumed responsibilities as our class sponsor along with Mrs. Frederikson. This was the first year that we had a class picnic. Then we were freshmen. At last the best days of our school career were here. Mrs. Sarvis came this year replacing Mrs. Frederikson as assistant class sponsor. We entered a float in the Halloween parade and received a prize. That was a year for fun. The tenth grade hurried upon us and we had to start working to make some money. To do this we had a movie, and again a float which received a prize. We had a few birthday parties that year and in the year that followed. The eleventh grade, the biggest and best year yet, finally arrived. We were all excited about the play The Night of Icmuary l6th . and our prom, with the theme of Bon Voyage. We again had our movie, bake sale, scrap drive, a very successful Halloween dance, and another prize float. We had a very full year. At last we have come to the end of a long journey, only to start a new and strange adventure. This, our Senior Year, is one to which we have long looked forward. This year we had our senior play, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay , and a school assembly which was a Minstrel Show. The year has been highlighted with plans for graduation. Even though we have lost many members of our group through the years, we have gained many others. ft has been a long, but wonderful, journey, 19 I FORMALS FIRST ROW: SECOND ROW: THIRD ROW: The Pride And Ioy. The keynote to success in any venture is organization and careful planning, and then, developing those plans through active partici- pation into a completed product. Furthermore, a finished product can be no better than the parts that go into it. Modern production requires expert craftsmen, and the production of a yearbook is no excep- tion. Successful yearbook production requires work by all involved, and all too often, extra work and effort on the part of a few to make up for the work neglected or overlooked by others. As yearbook sponsor, I have been very close to each detailed operation which has resulted in this completed book. Therefore, I feel that it is fitting and proper that I pay special tribute to those who in my opinion, have done, not only a good job in their own departments, but also, who have willingly accepted any yearbook task as their task. ' Editor-Mary Alice Hutmacher was at hand at every work session. Quite frequently her home was the scene of yearbook work. Mary Alice was truly aware of her responsibilities and quite frequently found and solved prob- lems before l became aware of them. Editor-lames Avers has had the opportunity to gain much knowledge concerning yearbook production this year, and should be able to supply much help to the 1953 staff. Miscellaneous Advisor-Lois Warner rend- ered invaluable services. Lois never had a def- inite title. Lois developed the designs on the division pages, and Worked along with the Editorial Staff. Lois was at hand whenever and wherever needed. Typist-Alice Kern did an outstanding job in typing of all printed material appearing in this book. Alice helped a great deal with the actual setting-up of the yearbook. Her humor helped the staff through many monotonous tasks. Class Editor-Beverly Kuns did a nice job of handling the Senior section, and with Alice Kern's help, composed the Class History. Photography-Bob Mann without a doubt carried the brunt of the load as far as school photography was concerned. Bob took new pictures, retook unsuccessful pictures, and de- veloped and printed for our book. Bob's work saved our staff many dollars. He was always willing to supply badly needed transportation involved in our work. Also on the photograph staff were Robert Williams and Shirley Tressler who specialized in Girls' Activities. Business-Nira Parkhurst and Kathryn Myers both did outstanding jobs in the financial de- partment. Nira handled both the magazine drive and the yearbook campaign most effi- ciently. She also helped With some of the setting up operations. Kathryn worked cheer- STAFF fully and tirelessly on a most monotonous iob. She kept an accurate day by day account of ice cream sales and expenses. Sports -Bill Stiger willingly accepted the sports assignments as they found their way to him. Also, Bill rendered a great deal of per- sonal service to me during my most busy times. Thus enabling me to devote more time to the Courier than would have otherwise been possi- ble. Organization Editor-Paula Fiser was the last one to join our staff. At a time when the novelty of yearbook work had worn off many others, Paula worked with skill and enthusiasm, both in her section, and in other incompleted parts of the book. To these people I offer special thanks for their extra efforts above and beyond the call of duty. Respectfully, Paul R. The Clyde High School Band is composed of seventy-five members from grades seven to twelve. We rehearse three times a week during school hours, but during football season and before the spring contests we rehearse almost every morning at 7:00 a.m. The activities of the band are numerous. We perform between halves of all football games, home and away, give two formal concerts, participate in the contests fthe band received a top l Superior rating at the State Contests the last two yearsl give many summer concerts in Clyde and in other communities, march in parades at home and away and receive invitations to welcome famous visitors to Clyde. A highlight of each year for band members is the exchange concert. Last year we were overnight guests of Vandalia, Ohio's Band members and we appeared in three concerts in and around Vandalia. Then we returned the hospitality when the Vandalia Band gave a fine concert here and were over- night guests of our band members. We appreciate the fine cooperation which the entire community gives us and especially do we feel grateful for the hard work done by the Clyde Music Boosters Club in raising funds to support our organiation.
