SENICR CLASS HISTORY On a sunny morning in September, 1953, our Moments to Remember began as we arrived at Clovis High, lost and confused. We gathered then, according to tradition, in the balcony, better known as the Peanut Gallery. Do you know how we started off our four years here at Clovis High? Yes, you guessed it, with a flat, floppy yell, if you want to call it a yell. But we survived the remaining part of the year after electing Larry Little President, Kent Bishop Vice-President, and Pat Bishop Secretary- Treasurer. We had a Freshman Get-Acquainted Dance, which many of us attended. However, since we were shy and inexperienced, we stumbled around all night, afraid to move, and very few of us danced. When the end of the year came, one could hardly tell the Freshmen from the members of other classes until the mass confusion of Cavalcade distribution. We were all being pushed around, knocked to the ground, or being stepped on by the mighty Seniors. They seemed so very big then. Were we ever glad that year was over! ln 1954-55, we, as Sophomores, had the biggest and best class at Clovis: alert, willing to support class activities, and outnumbering the Seniors in CSF. We elected Kent Bishop President, Joe Men- doza Vice-President, and Sally McDonald, Secre- tary-Treasurer. This was the year we experienced the production of a class assembly. What work! But it was worth it because we had the best assembly Clovis had ever had with Hard Hearted Hannah, Mambo Italiano, and the Goops. These were only a few of the magnificent acts in our scrap- book of Moments to Remember. At that point, we began to think about a problem faced by all sopho- more classes-money. We had cup cake sales and held a Sophomore Sock Hop. Our beautiful new gym brought us luck that year, for all our basketball teams won championships in the Northern Sequoia League for the first time in the history of the school. We then iourneyed to Wasco in extreme enthusiasm, for the championship game. However, our excite- ment over the basketball game was dampened shortly after that by our deep sorrow over the death of one of our most beloved teachers, Mr. Ernest Thun. Now we were growing older and wiser because we were Juniors. Kent Bishop was elected as our President, Georgette Andreis as Vice-President, and Cecile Lucich as Secretary-Treasurer. That is the year we received material evidence to show that we were upper-classmen, our beautiful class rings, and our blue class sweaters. That year we acquired our own column in the Growl, it was called '57 Heav- en. Everyone worked hard to make our class play, M'Liss, a success. We sponsored the best dance ever known on the face of this old earth, the fa- mous Junior Jump. Our assembly given that year was called Dress RehearsaI. But still all is not complete until we mention our never-to-be-forgotten prom, Rhapsody in Blue. We decorated until 7:00 p.m., and when we left it, it was almost time to come back for the dance, which was a big success in the eyes of all who attended. That over and done, and having taken an entire summer to get used to the idea of being Seniors, we returned to school September 17, 1956. Now we're the big wheels. There was one maior change here when we returned, something altogether differ- ent from before-school started at 8:30 a.m. instead of 9:00 lthe hour that we sleepy seniors greatly pre- ferredl. As Seniors we presented the play Years Ago, and the Senior Assembly reopened our scrap- book to add some new memories to it before it was closed for good. Dorothy Facio introduced her orig- inal Calypso singing to the student body, everyone got a kick out of our new Senior Rock 'n Roll combo, most of our student body went Siamese when Little Bop Red was presented, and each of the acts con- tributed to the roaring success of the assembly. Our candidate was crowned Queen of the annual Blue and Gold Ball. We went to Fresno to observe court- room procedure, and iourneyed to Reedley for Ca- reer Day. These trips were very enlightening to all who went. Our class rings may be outdated, and our sweat- ers may be wearing out, but when we muse over our memories and see the pictures of our friends and fellow classmates, we look back on four years of wonderful Moments to Remember.
