On September 17, 1951, about 300 last and bewildered stu- dents belonging to the classifi- cation unintelligentia freshman- ia, class '55, experienced their first day of high school. For the opening assembly, we, the Freshmen, sat in what is now the Sophomore section of the auditorium, lt was soon discov- ered that there was not enough room downstairs for everyone, so we were all shown the way to the attic. Since then the Freshmen have always had the pleasure of sitting upstairs for the assemblies and pep rallies. We elected Ruben Barrios as our Commander-in-chief, or Pres- ident, Richard Church, Vice President, Darrellg Underwood, Secretary-Treasurer Robert Gor- cia, Boys' Athletic Manager: Connie Browning, Girls' Athletic Manager, and Janet Stephenson and Margie Bartucci, Yell Lead- ers. We also elected a standing committee, This committee was not necessary. Nobody did any- thing but stand laroundl any' how. During the year we held two dance parties. These turned out iust alike: the girls stayed on one side ot the cafeteria, and the bays on the other side, each one so bashful that he wouldnt ask his best girl to dance. By September, l952, we werent very eager to get back, but it really seemed good to know that there was one class lower than we were.
