Zke Class of 965 Presents Zke Zkirtietk Edition of tke Qreen Knight faculty Classes Organizations Sports Activities 2 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silent, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-9 We have chosen this passage because it best expresses the way we feel. Until now we have been unaware that we would never be able to relive the experiences of the past few years; we have been unaware of how quickly time passes. Now, as graduation approaches, we begin to realize what those short years have held for us. We now realize that we, members of a brief section of time, must strive to capture each fleeting moment - to live it fully and to cherish it as a warm memory. There are numerous occurrences in our school life, private ones and those shared by many. It is our purpose in this book to represent a sampling of these memorable moments, and thus stop and recall a short period of time for each to remember. Every Season Mas a Zirne A time to Begin A time to End 4 J Zime to Ccam A Zime to Work A time to Play We Dedicate the 965 Qreen Knight to .. . However, the Green Wave, through hard work and sheer determination, developed a fine offense and a surpris- ingly rugged defense. The Wave used a hard running backfield, coupled with a newly found passing attack, to blitz its opponents throughout the season. Clintwood ended the season with a hard earned and well-deserved victory over Alleghany, giving them an 8-2 record overall, good enough for a third place finish. 85 HIRAM STANDIFUR Lettered 1962-63-64 1964 All-Conference Defensive Tackle JACK JOHNSON Lettered 1962-63-64 1964 All-Conference Halfback JENNINGS VANOVER Lettered 1962-63-64 1964 Honorable Mention All-Conference Fullback 1964 Blocking Award HAROLD STANLEY Lettered 1962-63-64 ALLEN KELLY Lettered 1962-63-64 LARRY CLAY 1964 All-Conference Linebacker Lettered 1962-63-64 RICHARD MOONEY Lettered 1962-63-64 86 DANNY DOTSON Lettered 1963-64 tK U ' « t 0 S e « ROY FLEMING Lettered 1962-63-64 1964 All-Conference End . 1964 All-State End Second Team 1964 Most Valuable Lineman GERALD KENDRICK Lettered 1962-63-64 1964 All-Conference Halfback Honorable Mention 1964 Sportsmanship Award MICHAEL HUGHES Lettered 1962-63-64 1964 All-Conference Linebacker Honorable Mention 1964 Tackling Award PHILLIP LEE Lettered 1963-64 ROBERT STANLEY Lettered 1963-64 RONALD DOTSON Lettered 1963-64 87 basketball 1 S ' - ' A w| i 1 IV0 Hi Coach Kenneth Bailey - kneeling, Jack Johnson, Randy Rakes, Buddy Wallen, Johnny Stanley, Larry Bise, Danny Crabtree, Hiram Standifur, Buford Barrett, Bobby Meade, Palmer Yates, Larry Meade, Robert Stanley, Larry Clay COACH - Mr. Kenneth Bailey Although the year’s record was not outstanding, the players did a tremendous job out on the court and represented our school, our spirit, and our capabilities in an appropriate manner. Lack of height proved to be a big handicap when the Green Wave faced its taller, more ex- perienced opponents. The Green Wave made up for it with the good spirit, hustle, and fine sportsmanship that is always a characteristic of Clintwood High School. Next year’s team will be without the benefits and services of Larry Clay, Danny Crabtree, Bobby Meade, Hiram Standifur, Robert Stanley, and Buddy Wallen, all graduating with the class of 1965. In spite of losing these players, everyone is confident that the team of 65-66 will carry on in the fine tradition of Clintwood High basketball and be a winner. 88 BOBBY MEADE Lettered 1963-64-65 All-Conference 1964 Most Valuable Player 1965 ROBERT STANLEY Lettered 1964-65 Sportsmanship Award 1965 0 u r S e H i o r s HIRAM STANDIFUR Lettered 1964-65 All-Conference 1965 Honorable Mention All-State LARRY CLAY Lettered 1964-65 DANNY CRABTREE Lettered 1964-65 BUDDY WALLEN Lettered 1964-65 89 Our Up and Coming Underclassmen JOHNNY STANLEY PALMER YATES LARRY MEADE RANDY RAKES LARRY BISE {junior Varsity Ronnie Brown, Bill Skeen, Gary Wright, Harold McGlothin, J.
