Clint West (Left) was not only a strong pitcher for the team, but was also one of the top hitters. Russell Anglin makes the play on second base as fielder Melvin Emerson is ready to back him up. Junior McGhee shows here that the Jackets would get to the plate anyway they could, even if they did run over a few guys! Robert Evans swings the bat and gets a hit to help the team along (Right). Dennis McKellep slides into second base just in time to be safe.

CLINTON GOES TO STATE SEMIFINALS The Yellowjacket baseball team was probably one of the strongest ever fielded by a Class A school. They coasted to a 19-2 record behind good pitching, fine fielding, and strong consistent hitting. The Jack- ets opened their domination by winning the Tech tournament handily. The Jackets had only one close game in this tournament and won it by 3 runs. They peaked, and played their best ball of the year. The Jackets were unbeatable, as Sylvan Hills found out in the finals of the UALR tournament, as the Jackets de- feated them 16-6. They went on to win the district tournament without much problem. This made them the champs of District 1 North for the second con- secutive year, and they once again went to the State Tournament. The Jackets won two close games over Des Arc and Sylvan Hills. At this point, everyone had Clinton as the favorite, as they should have been. A bad day, with errors and a slump in hitting paved the way for Texarkana to beat the Jackets in the semifinals. A Clinton baseball team has never been this far, and fans were proud of the team. The Jacket pitching staff compiled an ERA of 1.50, and the powerful hitting club ended the season with a team batting average of . 325. This had 15 home runs, and a total of 180 runs, and allowed only 83. The boys who made A11-District were David Hogue, Melvin Emerson, Clint West, Dickie Maas, and Junior McGhee. Dennis McKellep made All- State. PLAYER POS BATTING AVG.
