SENIOR BOYS Bottom Row: Barry Gunn, Dean Allen, Rod Smith, Mike Autry, Jeff Williams; Second Row: Russell Anglin, Stanley Smith, Jerry Owens, Ronnie Isom, Brian Fancher, David Williams, Tony Gifford; Top Row: Coach Hankins, Ricky Russell, Lathan Jackson, Jeff Davis, Dennis Loven, Randy Smith. The 1976-77 basketball Yellowjackets could best be described as dedicated and hardworking. They were dedicated to improving the basketball program in order to have a winning season. They were willing to work hard to achieve this goal. Most individual goals were achieved; to win 15 or more regular season games, to bring the county championship back to CHS, and to gain the respect of other District 12A teams. This team served notice that they would not be the ' 'door mats'' of opposing teams. Leadership is a necessary ingredient for any successful season. We were fortunate to have three fine senior leaders in Jeff Williams, Doug Jones, and Stan Smith. Jeff was our floor leader and captain and all three will be missed next year. Junior players included Lathan Jackson, Barry Gunn, David Williams, Russell Anglin, Dennis Loven, Randy Smith, Dean Allen, and Jerry Owens. Lathan, at only 6'0 , was our leading scorer and rebounder, and played like 6'4 . Barry was our second leading scorer and has ability to be a leader in other areas. David was able to succeed by using determination, desire, and hard work. Russell, the shortest post man in the district, but no one ever told him, he played like one of the tallest. Dennis had big games for us coming off the bench and he has a big future. Randy, Dean, and Jerry, saw mostly B game action but their desire made the other players work harder. A playerGs sophomore year should be a learning year although some saw considerable game action. Yellowjackets with a future includes: Jeff Davis, Ronnie Isom, Ricky Russell, Brian Fancher, and Mike Autry. Jeff was our second leading rebounder and one of our leading scorers. Ronnie, Ricky, Brian, and Mike formed the nucleur of a successful ' 'B'' team and will be back for two more years of Yellowjacket basketball. The 1976-77 season was the most enjoyable season I have experienced as a coach. This was due to the character of the players. This group tried to do everything I asked of them and would not quit, even when things were not going as we planned. I was proud to be a YELLOWJACKET! 16
