llll CBlIlIl1CIDlF'llillUIll ACKNOWLEDGMENT of faithful service in the teaching profession always comes too late The only apparent comparison is derived from the fact that a teacher works with youth in a restless pursuit of knowledge. There is, however, always one teacher who, by his dedication, makes teaching a worthy profession. It is with great respect and humility that the Class of 1959 pays homage to the memory of Raymond E. Dyer, who in his teaching career, spanning some thirty-five years, served the best interests of this high school and our community. Indeed, when one considers his contributions to community projects, then we have to double the role and value of the man as well as the teacher. Somehow it is hard to distinguish between the quality of the man and the quality of the teacher. One can see in both these qualities, the good man of the home, the disciplinarian, the genius of being helpful and considerate, the never shirking ideal of saying no to the unqualified, the citizen with the community's best interest at heart, the teacher with strength and breadth of vision, the man with the tremendous capacity for work, the idealist who made things work, and the practical man all united in the corporate form of Raymond E. Dyer, and makes us realize, even in the Atomic Age, the importance of a good man and a good teacher in a most complex society. In the words of the poet, he symbolizes That man is great, and he alone, Who serves a greatness not his own, For neither praise no pelf: Content to know and be unknown: Whole in himself.
