One of these was the sudden death of Thomas Comerford in an automobile accident during his junior year. The Lord called him home before he could make a lasting mark upon the world. The world's a stage 3 and Tommy had his part. He was the extrovert, always seen and heard in the middle of things. He chose football as the primary outlet for his energy. Tommy did not find studies as absorbing as others did, for he possessed the free, unbounded spirit which many youth effuses. Tommy typified the doer, the being who puts another's plan into action. No man's earthly life, no matter how brief, is in vain, for each man has been placed upon this earth for a reason. God must have decided Thomas Comerford had accomplished his purpose. 3 in emoriam tlloseplh F., llfllolcalliilirey The pedagogic profession is one of the most honorable and most respected occupations. The essence of teaching makes this vocation an environment for spiritual rewards and mental satisfaction rather than for material gains. In a way the teacher sacrifices his life for those who are to follow him. When his years of service have been completed, he, in retrospect, possesses memories of enduring worth and satisfaction, which no other profession affords. He has contributed to the molding of the soul of youth. It is with deep respect and humility that the Class of 1956 acknowledges the faithful service of joseph F. McCaffrey. A member of the faculty of Clinton High School for over thirty-five years, he was a friend to pupil and athlete alike. The extent of his devotion to duty and his dignity of manner, few can equal. Although the Class of '55 stole the show, our classmates' polished performance was enjoyed by all. Heading the cost was Janet Russell in the role of Jane Warren, the protagonist. Janet was ably assisted by Elaine Siok as the teenage vamp, John Flannagan as the all-brown, no-brain football star, Joan Brodmerkle as Mrs. Warren, Duncan McLeod, the iitterbug enthusiast, Jean Diguette as the weepy wallflower, and Chick Cecchini as the roller skating kid brother. The show could not have been the success that it was without the expert direction of Miss Elizabeth G. Thompson, the soft-voiced prompting of Linda Heinold and Lillian Joyce, and the stage managing of Tom Hubble. eniur may Cgasl - Our Senior Success Friday the thirteenth was no nemesis for our Class in April, 1956, when the Seniors walked away with the Inter- Class Dramatics crown. Jerry Breaks a Date was a howling success, climaxed by John Flannagan, the scheming teacher, appearing in his mother's evening gown. Elaine Siok was the girl with the big problem: two men. Margaret Purucker, the social minded mother, Maureen Scanlon, the aunt and her abettor, Duncan McLeod, the unconcerned father, and Fred Gamarsh as the unwanted date. The experience obtained from farmer plays was evident in the professional performances of all the participants. Miss Mildred Gannon directed the play with patience and perfection. Stage managers were John Henighan and Mike O'Toole, and prompters were Janet Kiley and Theresa Scanlon. Junior Marshals CLASS OF 1956 W i , With the return to school in every C. H. S. boyis thoughts turn plunges, shoulder pads and wing-'l' This year the Galloping Gaels, led Ed Frisch, strongly supported by September, to the line formations. by Captain Senior vet- erans Dick Brennan, Roy Win11, and Pete 0,Malley, tackles, Steve Celona and Don Perla, guards, Ron Rock, Art Broman and Pete Lucci, halfbacksg Al lnnamorati, center, and Tom Lit- terio and Mike Dvlloole, fullhacks, began their grid season like a shot out of a cannon. The opening game saw the Gaels parleying a pair of breaks with timely passing and run- ning to smother St. Peteris High, 20-0. Milford was the next victim for the onslaught of the onrushing Gaels as they were mired into defeat, 25-0. Witllout breaking stride, Clinton's defensive wall turned back the favored Wo1'ces ter Trade, 6-0. The first three games the Gaels functioned with the precision of a fine watch and the brute power of an army tank. They totaled 51 markers without yielding a single point to the opposition. Then the slack season fell heavily upon them. It all started when the aerial-minded Blue Devils of Leominster turned the tide by drub- hing our gridmen, 27-7, with a fourth quarter splurge. While they were still smarting from the wounds inflicted by Leominster, Bartlett High handed us our second loss, 6-0, and in succes- sion Hudson, Marlboro, and St. Bernard,s had the uper hand as our gridsters floundered. After a two weeks' gap in their schedule, the Gaels tore into Maynard with the tenacity of a bear and eopped the Turkey Day classic, H-12. As Shakespeare said, All's well that ends wellf' and Clinton ended its football card in splendid fashion. Good luck to the members of the squad from the Class of ,56. W V .... By this, wc mean not only the team spirit, but also the incessant roar of the enthusiastic fans. And who do we find at the helm of this all-important part of sport success? None other than the energetic cheerleaders of Clinton High. Their task is to lead the cheering section at our football and basketball games. In past years they have done a superb job in helping to establish a great reputation for Clinton High. They have participated in numerous cheerleading tournaments and have established themselves as one of the best cheering groups in the business. This year was no exception, they worked harder than ever and at the termination of the athletic season they further developed the slogan that MCLINTON HIGH IS THE BEST IN EVERYTHING. This was proven when they captured the Al Banx award at the annual Spencer Cheerleaders Tournament. With an over-all record of 9 wins and 9 defeats, it would seem like an average season, but one must consider that 7 of these victories came in the final spurt of 10 games. Because of the fiery wind-up of their schedule, the Gaels participated in the Clark University Tournament. The spirits of C. H.S. fans somewhat dimmed when their team lost to the very classy David Prouty High of Spencer W the eventual champion of the classic. In the tenth annual Assumption Invitation Tourna- ment, the netmen from Clinton copped runner-up honors for the Class B crown. They easily subdued Sacred Heart Academy of Worcester in the first elimination contest, and after a rugged first half, rolled over Uxbridge High School and won a berth in the finals. They played the defending champions, Auburn High, and after a nip-and-tuck first half, with Clinton having the edge, the Auburn Dandies proved too much and pulled away to their fifth straight tournament crown. However, Pat O'Toole, star of the '56 Gaels, was selected for a berth on the Tourna- ment All-Star Team .... a special tip of the hat' to you, Pat. All in all, it certainly was more than an ordinary season. Most races are won in the final laps., and that seems to be the pattern our boys followed this year. He has high hopes of bringing the Midland League crown back to C. H. S. Coach Weihn is shaping his team around a strong core of last year's regulars that include outfielders Dick Brennen, Steve Celona, and Art Broman, pitchers Tom Litterio and Dave Bailey, and first sacker Ed Frisch. These veterans, plus many ALL... promising reserves from last year's lineup, John Flannagan, Bob Ciavola, Bob Gibbons, and Bill Walsh, make the Gaels a definite threat to cop the Midland League pennant. Coach Weihn is rounding the boys into a fine defensive outfit, with strong hitting and sturdy pitching. He feels that with these, the team will do more than its share in upholding the tradition of former Clinton High teams.
