According to the national office, a student must have at least a “B” average in order to be eligible. In the Charles Evans chapter at C.C.H.S., a student may first become eligible during the second semester of his junior year. Eligibility for induction is based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service. After totaling the service points of all students scholastically eligible, each teacher rates those students whom he knows as to character and leadership on a scale of 1-10. After totaling and averaging the points of all four categories, those students whose points meet the predetermined quoitent are inducted into National Honor Society. 46 47 Front row, left to right: Laura Roberts, Mary Jackson, Valerie VanOrman, Teresa Rempe, Debbie Brady, Carol McGarry, Leslie Spencer, Crystal, Thompson, Miss MacNamee. Student Council—A Busy Year Student Council is a self-supporting organization of students that serve as a voice for the student body. They help with the concerns of students and aid in communications between students, faculty, and administration. This year, students from the council participated in several committees. On the student discipline committee, early graduation committee, and weighted grading system committee, members of the council expressed their policies. Another committee the council participated in served as a lia-son with the administration; problems and possible solutions were presented by both students and administration. Student council also was in charge of many homecoming activities. They sponsored spirit week, picking winners and awarding prizes each day, as well as sponsoring the homecoming dance, snake dance and bonfire, and the assembly for the homecoming queen. In addition, the council awarded the prize money and helped to organize the homecoming parade. Furthermore, they also held several money making projects this year. Among these were the buttons, banners and Fuller-Brush products. This year proved to be a successful one for the council, and we hope many more will follow.
