Mr. James Adcock The Clintonia staff and the Senior class of 1971 take great pleasure in dedicating the 1970-1971 Clintonia Yearbook to Mr. James Adcock. Mr. Adcock has taught in the Clinton Community School System since the January of 1961 and has received his Masters Degree from Western Illinois University. He has taught typing and is now teaching in the English department. He has also been teaching an adult typing class in the evenings. During these busy ten years, Mr. Adcock has also been associated with the Pep Club, served as Junior class sponsor, devoted numerous hours to MARGOL, and given much time to various proms. In dedicating this year's CLINTONIA to Mr. James Adcock, we would like to express our deepest gratitude and sincere admiration to a fine man who has worked relentlessly to improve our school and its student body. At the close of a week of long, hard, sometimes frustrating work, the fine efforts of many high school students were displayed as the Homecoming parade marched through the streets of Clinton. Although the skies were gray on this Friday afternoon, October 9, 1970, the spirit of the spectators remained bright. G.A.A. bears down on third place. Homecoming Parade Homecoming Assembly Miss Linda Bianucci escorted by Johnny Pine. Miss Jan Myers escorted by Alan Peterson. Miss Tere Werts escorted by Phil Lamkin. On Friday morning, October 9, 1970, our returning Homecoming Queen Miss Debbie Turney gave a small speech of appreciation and an encouraging word to the four excited candidates. These four finalists, dressed in evening gowns, were introduced to the student body and then asked to answer one situational question. 10 The fighting Clinton Maroons were defeated by U-High in the Homecoming game, Friday night, October 9, 1970. The final score was 21 8. A very brisk cold wind was braved throughout the game by both the players and the fans. Although U-High beat us, the score did not indicate the equal abilities of the two teams. Both teams fought very hard, but U-High seemed to get the right breaks at the right times. “And when the evening comes V The reigning queen, Miss Jan Myers escorted by Joe Weinman, smiles as she is surrounded by her honored court: Miss Linda Bianucci, escorted by Steve Long; Miss Jean Hickman, escorted by Mike Connelly; and Miss Tere Werts, escorted by Dave Freese. Mr. Futrell and others enjoy refreshing drinks and cookies served by the Tuggles. And, yes, Jan's happiness truly is . . . Homecoming '71. Happiness is . . . walking in the grass in your bare feet or maybe dancing to a song just for you. Nurse Baker (Beverly) awaits further instruction by the neurotic Walter Mitty portrayed by Dave Moss. On November 20 and 21, 1970, the Clinton High School presented the play A THURBER'S CARNIVAL by James Thurber. The theme of the play was the humor of everyday life; life past, present, and future. A narrative of our time, a complete and stimulating story, THE LAST FLOWER proved to have a marked difference from the other scenes which presented a contrasting effect. TO THE RIGHT, Debbie Hardin is shown helping Julie North add the last minute touches to her make-up, while Bill Conn admires Beth Harbach's make-up below in one of the many humorous fables presented. 19 Girls Boys Watch PS 7 fejW; I just dropped in to see what Hello, Mr. Biddle, this Lilly Tomlin------- condition my condition was in! This is a variation of the story JACK AND THE BEANSTALK. The group presented the play to Washington, Douglas, Lincoln, Hallsville, and Kenny grade school children. The kids really enjoyed the production as they were able to participate in its staging. Only one of their teachers was allowed to be present when the play was being put on, therefore, the children were sometimes over-enthusiastic. But the cast enjoyed performing for them, and Mr. Weberg did a fine job directing the play. 25 'E Mi A Time For Us was the theme for the Junior-Senior Prom held May 8 this year. The gym was decorated with streamers, garden fountains, and sundials. The stage became a balcony with a place for couples to sit if they wanted to watch the dancers. The Juniors made little replicas of the sundials as souvenirs for the couples attending the Prom. The Delegation , a rock group, provided both fast and slow music for the occasion. 28 Honors; Day Assembly Awards Presented May 19, 1971 G.A.A.............................. Beth Harbach 29 Graduation Day It's true, and at times it seemed a hopeless struggle.' Looking back upon the past four years, it is not only hard to believe, but also rather frightening to think that the Class of 1971 has actually reached its one goal and is about to begin once more. As far as memories are concerned, one can think of endless activities and events that will stay with us forever .... As the end of our Junior year approached, we began looking beyond Prom and high school activities. We began to think about college and our future. Our Senior year found many of us still thinking, and some making final decisions concerning our future plans. This year was undoubtedly the busiest of all, as we make final visits to colleges and prepared for the many year-end activities that faced us as Seniors .... As we go out into the world today, where one finds such a great need for peace and unity, hopefully the Class of 1971 will have benefited from its past weaknesses, and will strive to make their future lives infinitely profitable and successful. -President's Address Susan Kraft 30 Hail Alma Mater... Please do not grieve and shed wild tears And hug your sorrow to you through the years, But start out bravely with a gallant smile; And for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same, Feed not your loneliness on empty days. But fill each waking hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; And never, never be afraid to die. This year's Varsity football squad did not have the success of last year's squad, although they probably fought harder. The team spent many long hours of practice, and they maintained their spirit throughout the season. For this reason, the Clintonia staff believes they deserve a big hand, and we all have confidence that next year's squad will enjoy a more successful season. Soph omore Sto ICS FIRST ROW: G. Both teams have worked cooperatively to display some very promising defense work. We can look for some future possibilities in these two teams if they continue to play to the best of their ability and never give up. Student Council This year has been a turning point for Student Council. Student Council has more organization and authority than ever before-as shown by the way the year started with such a successful Homecoming- Happiness is ... Homecoming 70 . Student Council also sponsored several dances after basketball games as well as Pride Week, which both helped raise school spirit. One of Student Council's greatest achievements was its contribution to AFS by helping financially. But most of all, Student Council was accepted as a representative body and was used by the students to voice their opinions about complaints and problems. This year, F.T.A.’s industrial members busied themselves serving coffee and donuts at one of the teacher conventions. Other activities were selling hot potatoes and some members went to the F.T.A. Convention. When asked the well-known question, What do you want to be when you grow up? The student replies A teacher, though I hate them so, right now, I want to be on the other side, just once. It will be humorous when we think of his perpetual smile and happy-go-lucky nature. It'll be serious when we think of his football injury and his violin playing at Christmas time. Klaus came from Ingelheim, Germany, leaving behind his parents and a younger sister, Christel, age 13. His visit here was from August 6, 1970, until August 27, 1971. While he was here, Klaus was an active member of Band and Stage Band, F.T.A., Classical Club, Pep Club, Student Council, and the football, basketball and track teams, he was a good example of a hard working, ambitious young man. Klaus didn't give up when things didn't go his own way. He just took them in his stride and worked at it until it was right. We wish him the best of luck in all he does and we hope that someday he will be able to visit with us again. 132 David Lee Ballenger Janice Rae Barnes 134 Stephanie Lynn Bell Linda Jolene Bianucci Joni Lynne Blue Timmy Allen Bostwick William Clarence Boyd Kelly Louis Breeze David Allen Briggs Roger Lee Brown William Dale Brown Kathy Joan Bryant Sheri Renee' Burton Deborah Jean Bush Roger Earl Bushong Ricky Charles Butler 135 Sandra Marie Byrd Randy Scott Callison 136 James Richard Calvin Dennis Eldon Carter Janetta Marie Carter John Everett Clymer Marsha Lynn (Strange) Conaster Pandora Jean Cope Arthur Joseph Covington Gloria Anne Cox Nancy Lynn Crang Cathy Suzanne Cromwell Karren Kay Daniels Peggy Ann Daniels Gregory John Delost James Allan Devine 137 Klaus Dorn Leslie Michele Dupree 138 Donna Ann Duvall David Michael Followell Donna Mae Evans John Kenneth Evans Michael Douglas Fleming Bradley Dean Fink Scott Wayne Floyd Renee Marie Fortune Avery Thomas Fought Barbara Ann Kratz Robert Francis Kuntz Phillip Ray Lamkin Patricia Ann Lentz Sandra Ann Lewis 139 Barbara Ann Geddes Sherrie Diane Gelsthorpe Terry Lee Gentry Barbara Jo Gibson Pamela Sue Girard Tommy Kim Goddard Terry Boyd Gonzales Dennis Lee Goodpasture 140 Debra Kay Greenwood David Wayne Griffin Sarah Joann Griffin Keith Ray Griffith Bethann Kay Harbach Dwain Addison Harmon Paul Doyen Harrington Jean Evans Hickman 141 Susan Ann (Bell) Hoffman Helen Elaine Honecker 142 Rita Marie Hornback Patricia Christine Howell Roselynn Paulette Huffman Michael George Hulgan Barbara Ann Jenkins Deborah Ann Jiles Mary Charlene Jost Victor Mark Julison Deborah Jean Karr Karry William Karr Kenneth Edward Karr Nancy Rose Kleidosty Peter Alan Kraft Susan Kraft 143 James Philip Liles Penny Lou Rich 144 Steven Micheal Rittenhouse Gary Lynn Roberts Cathy Sue Rogers Diana Lynne Rosenberger Kelly Ross Sharkey David Lynn Short Cynthia Irene May Richard Melvin McConnell Pamela Sue McCubbins Debra Lee McDaniel Lois Ann McKinzey Benny Lee McNees Kenton Keith Miller Kristina Frances Miller 145 Wayne R.
