U. student was announced by her parents. Chicago - Aug. 30, 1965 Today the manager of the Chicago Stags, Virgil Brady, announced the signing of a new and very valuable player, Stan Walden. John Miller, the popular C.B.S. sports reporter says the combination of Walden and Leo Rhoades, who has been with the team for sometime, will be a dangerous threat. Clinton - Dec. 1, 1961 The management of the Woolworth store in Clinton recently transferred to Arthur Day. Mr. Day has been an employee in this firm for ten years. District of Columbia - Nov. 12, 1971 Miss Jacqueline Vinson was swarn in as the Illinois Senate Representative. She is the first lady to be sent to Congress from Illinois. Chicago - May 28, 1962 Today the bookingof the famous blues singer, Martha DeBois, was announced. She is to appear at the Chicago Theater during the next two months. Now appearing is the well known opera star, John Hunsley. Clinton - Nov. 23, 1954 Home from a week end from Illinois State Normal are Marilyn Spitzer, Virginia Hoge, Laura Byrne, and Carolyn Shaw. Clinton - March 19, 1960 Jack Booker and Jack Duff took positions with the Borden Milk Company. Gary Callison is the mid-Illinois branch manager. Hospital Notes - Suzanne Perry was admitted to the Betty Kraft Hospital today for an emergency appendectomy. Miss Jessie Wolfe and Dona Winebrinner left the hospital today. Clinton - July 6, 1956 Joyce Armstrong is a new teacher in the Lincoln School. Miss Armstrong will teach fifth grade. Martha La mpe will take over the Kinder-garden for the coming season. Clinton - July 7, 1963 Mr. Robert Schindler has been promoted to vice-president of the Revere plant in Clinton.

Clinton - Dec. 26, 1969 During the Christmas holidays many former Clinton residents visited parents, relatives, and friends. Among those were Donna Manual who recently was appointed State Superintendant of Nurses; Ruby Johnson and Helen Reynolds who have been playing with the St. Louis All Girl Orchestra. Marcellen Lalicker, a secretary with the Reckling Dry Goods, and Carol Car-mean, the well known golfer, were visiting here. Miss Lila Shafer, the much publicized New York art critic, was in town to visit Miss Carolyn Bowling. Job Wanted - Have had a variety of experiences in many types of work. Sherril Bishop. Clinton - Dec. 17, 1959 Last night Miss Alice Killough was installed as Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. Clinton - July 16, 1966 Earlene Mayfield has taken a position as Commercial Department head. Miss Mayfield teaches shorthand in CCHS. Clinton - Jan. 2, 1961 Alice Koons, Shirley Sronce, Arlene Sullivan, and Elizabeth Tuggle bought the Shack and plan to expand. It will be open for business Jan. 18. Miss Esther Kenney will keep books for the new restaurant. Clinton - March 31, 1969 Elevator Board members were elected today in several DeWitt County areas. The Lane co-operative elected Bob Adcock. The former representative from Lane was Fred Brennan but he resigned the position when he was elected president of the board. DeWitt chose Don Reynolds to take the place of Bob Harrold who recently retired from farming. Ronald Donahowerwill represent Jenkins Switch and Phil Dial will be present for Maroa. Clinton - Aug. 13, 1957 A new librarian, Freda Smith, has joined the staff of CCHS. Clinton - Sept. 3, 1960 Dr. Philip Sharkey has set up his practice on North Center. Miss Goldie Bell will be his office receptionist. Clinton - Sept. 27, 1959 The Telford Appliance and Auto Parts store held a grand opening here in Clinton today. The owner and proprietor, Daniel Telford, has hired several former class mates for his new business: Donna Willis as bookkeeper; Charles Wilson and Bob Sprague, clerks; and Jim Cooper financial manager. %

Clinton - April 23, 1972 Last night the DeWitt County Farmers met at the high school to discuss current farming problems. The guest for the meeting was E. Thomas Brandon, the well known stock-market buyer. Leonard McCrory was elected presidentof the organization; Merle Wagner vice-president; Arthur Armstrong secretary; Eddie Wollen treasurer. Carl Kreitler was appointed chairman of the investigating committee. Sonny Van Arsdall, Gerry Johnston, Elwood Adams Jr. , and Robert Primmer made up Mr. Kreitler's committee. Clinton - Sept. 29, 1957 Two Clinton men joined the Armed Forces today. They are Roy Wilis, and Dean Foster. Clinton - Oct. 2, 1967 A minor fire was reported at the ’’Photo Shop” in Clinton today. Don Campbell, the owner, said that little damage was done. Clinton - June 17, 1955 Goldie Bateson and Doris Allen have accepted positions as typists with the ICRR. Washington - Feb. 17, 1965 Doris Benefiel has taken the position of private secretary to William Conn. Mr. Conn is the President's Foreign Affairs Adviser. Birkbeck - Aug. 8, 1958 A new commercial training school has been erected just north of the elevator. Miss Marilyn Cullers will be supervisor of the training center and Miss Lois Harris will assist her. The instructors of the various courses will be Gail Fink, Marilyn Ely, Patricia Ellis, Mary DuPree, Joan Crowe, Dolores Wilson, Virginia Bowles, Edna Long, and Barbara Reynolds. Decatur - Sept. 3, 1955 Graduation from the Decatur School of Nursing found three Clinton girls finishing their training. Pat Lane, Mary Shobe, and Doris Reynolds were the girls. Clinton - Jan. 23, 1963 Robert Buchanan, the Editor-in-chief of the Journal and Public is vacationing in Florida. Clinton - March 17, 1957 A new drive-in theater was opened on the west side of Clinton today. The manager, Vernon Leinweber, and his partner, James Florey, were on hand for the press interview and expressed optimism for the theater's future. Working at the Floein” are Eugene Willoughby, William Stennett, Wilborn Owens, Juanita Johnson, Norma Clark, and Niles Lighthall.
