West, East, and South has a history and individual background or its omi! The first Clinton School, built in the year or 1896 on THE SITE or THE CRANG BUILDING, NORTH JACKSON, WAS NOT A HIGH SCHOOL PROPER, ALTHOUGH HIGH SCHOOL SUBJECTS WERE TAUGHT. This school was known as the McCorkie School! The West unit, oldest or the three, was dedicated the year or 1906. At that time the Board or Education consisted or the following: E. B. Michell, President K. S. Brown, Secretary A. E. Shell J. H. Sobiith Thomas Ewing E. H. Beatty A. H. Phillips The superintendent was Mr. H. H. Edmonds, and the principal Mr. J. W. Browning. Later various classes aooeo certain distinctive features which we or THE PRESENT can not imagine doing without— for instance the marble fountain just insioe the outer lobby, WHOSE REFRESHING NECTAR WE WELCOME MANY TIMES DURING THE DAY! FOR THIS WE ARE INDEBITED TO THE CLASS OF 1913! OTHER FEATURES ARE THE TWO IMPRESSIVE COLUMNS, WHICH GUARD THE WALK LEADING TO THE west entrance! These were dedicated by the class or 1919! The present Last unit was built by the contractors Hager- MAN HARSMIAN AND DESIGNED BY ARCHITECT J. W. PAYER IN 1916. The Board or Education members were at that time: Fred Ball, President K. A. Brown, Secretary E. H. Beatty T. A. Hull C. W. Cheek E. Lowney, (Mrs.) A. Harrold, (Mrs.) At that time, however, it was known as the Washington School and not until 1924 did it become an adoition to the High S chool— to be known by the future classes as the East BUILDING AND MANUEL ART UNIT! A PREVIOUS WASHINGTON SCHOOL HAD BEEN BUILT ON THE SAME LOCATION IN 1869. IT WAS ERADICATED TO PROVIDE A SITE FOR THE PRESENT BUILOINGi The latest ano most modern unit connecting East, West, and THE ART UNIT WAS COMPLETED ANO DEDICATED IN 19341 The present Boaro or Education were serving at that time, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE DECEASEO OR. H. K. HOOKER, WHO HAS BEEN REPLACED BY MR. C. M. CORRINGTON. R. w. Clemons, President Wirt Herrick, Secretary H. L. Swigart Roy H. Baker H. K. Hooker Also Mr. Ralph Robb, our present principal was here at that time! This building, combination gymnasium and auditorium, was a project under the Feder l Emergency Adminstrati on or Public Works, F. E. Berger and R. L. Kelley were co-architects ano William C. H.
